Syrian Child's Dream: To Study in China and Become a Doctor
During my trip to Syria, I made many local friends, and one child in particular left a lasting impression on me. He was only 12 years old, but during our conversations, I realized his mind was more mature than a 12-year-old. Perhaps this is what the Chinese saying means: 'Poor children grow up early because they are born into poor families.'
This child's home was destroyed by war years ago. Now he lives in a collective dwelling. As I couldn't go there to take photos, I couldn't record the situation!
However, the side of the child I saw was very optimistic. From conversations with older Syrian students, I learned that he is very studious and hardworking. He uses his own methods to communicate with everyone, especially Chinese people, in order to learn Chinese. He is often mistaken for a scammer, but he doesn't lose heart.
It wasn't until I met Xiao Ma that he told me, 'You are the only person I can get to know after a long period of several months, and I still maintain contact with you, sharing Chinese scenery and food with you, and willing to teach him Chinese culture.'
For me, I did feel a bit of pity for him. Seeing a child so hardworking, considering him a sacred person in his eyes, these are things I should do, it's a small effort that I can make.
During the continued conversations with this child, I discovered his dream was truly magnificent. His ideal is to come to China to study and become a doctor who saves lives. When I knew this ideal, I felt my head was going numb. I couldn't imagine what a 12-year-old boy had experienced, and he still had such an ideal, and he was actually putting it into practice.
Because during the entire journey through Syria, this child rarely communicated with me in a little bit of Chinese. He really learned Chinese through his own constant efforts, although he is still a little clumsy, I believe he will be able to achieve his current ideal through his own efforts in the near future.
Of course, after that, I will continue to help this child, and I hope he can really become a doctor through his own efforts. Xiao Ma shared this story to tell everyone that we live in a stable country, and our living standards are very good, but sometimes we still feel dissatisfied, compared to the people of Syria, they just want a stable life.
