Two Hidden Islands in Guangdong, Beautiful Scenery, Few Visitors; The Second One Still Doesn't Receive Large Passenger Ships

Currently, many tourists think of island tours first when they mention Hainan. In fact, there are many charming islands in provinces like Zhejiang, Fujian, Liaoning, and Guangdong. Among these, Nanshao Island, Shapuchuan Island, and Hailong Island are relatively well-known in Guangdong, while Dongao Island and GuiLing Island were not much known to outsiders for a long time.

Dongao Island is located in the Pearl River Estuary and is a charming island within the Zhuhai Wan Mountain Islands. It takes about 50 minutes by boat to reach Zhuhai's Zhoushan Port. The island does not have bridges connecting it to other parts of Zhuhai, and access is by boat. Due to transportation restrictions, local residents used to live almost isolated lives, and this is precisely why the island has preserved beautiful natural scenery, which rivals that of the Maldives.

The island is low on its sides and high in the middle, with some areas having roads. Climbing to higher elevations allows you to overlook the beautiful scenery of the Pearl River Estuary, especially the stunning sunset views.

There are few passenger ships and flights to and from the island, with a limited carrying capacity. Even after Oriental Satellite TV filmed 'Extreme Challenge' on the island, tourist crowds did not appear during the peak season, and tourists wanting to view the scenery from the top were even rarer.

The island's entertainment options include motorboat surfing, yacht circumnavigation, banana boat rides, and kayaking.

Dongao Island's forest coverage rate reaches 80%, and the air quality is good, making it suitable for weekend vacations and excursions to experience the charm of fishing villages.

The island's residents used to make a living by fishing, and after developing tourism, some started running bed and breakfast businesses and restaurants. The seafood market at the island's passenger ferry terminal is doing well, and tourists frequently come here to select and buy fresh seafood to cook at home.

Compared to Dongao Island, GuiLing Island in Shantou is even more remote. It's very far from any city in the Pearl River Delta, and large passenger ships don't operate to it; tourist groups rarely come here. Only adventurous hikers and outdoor clubs will come to play there specifically.

To reach the island, the only transportation is a speedboat.

There is a Ming Dynasty-style Mazu Temple on the island. If you know Cantonese, you can communicate with the staff at the temple.

GuiLing Island got its name because its shape resembles a turtle. The island's area is small, and you can walk around it in an hour. The island's highest elevation is only 53.6 meters, with a sunken area blocking the sea breeze, which can be used by visitors for camping. In good weather, small groups of tourists from the Pearl River Delta and surrounding cities come to camp.

The island's terrain is diverse, with various wild grasses and rocks matching the blue sky and sea, creating a magnificent and beautiful picture.

Because of transportation conditions and weather, there are slightly more tourists visiting in spring and autumn, and fewer in summer and winter.

The beauty of GuiLing Island lies in its nature and its unspoiled state. If the weather is clear, you can enjoy stargazing, watching the sunrise, or watching the sunset, all with good results.
