Taglang Mountain is located in the middle section of the Tanggula Mountains, located at 91°E, 33.5°N, with an altitude of 6621 meters. There are also many peaks with altitudes above 6000 meters around it. In the third geological age, this place was the edge of the ancient Mediterranean Sea, and later due to geological movement, the ground began to rise strongly, and finally formed the current pattern in the late Quaternary period.
Taglang Mountain, this ice glacier group is the largest ice glacier in the Tanggula Mountains, which stretches for 50 kilometers north-south and 20 kilometers east-west, with an ice and snow coverage area of 670 square kilometers, surrounded by more than 40 modern glaciers.
The ice of Taglang Mountain
Taglang Mountain, meaning 'high, sharp peaks' in Tibetan. In the seventh and eighth months of the Tibetan calendar, the Anzuo tribe's pastoralists have the opportunity to worship the sacred mountain. The local dialect is 'Ri Su', meaning 'to worship the mountain'. According to the old habits, only men are allowed to turn the mountain, while women are not allowed. The shepherds usually turn the mountain during the horse racing competition, and they must first invite monks to recite scriptures before turning the mountain, and then turn the mountain either on horseback or on foot to worship the sacred mountain. When turning the mountain, they must roast incense on the mountain and place inscribed mani stones, offering haadas to the sacred mountain, and some shepherds will also sprinkle oil, curdled milk, cow hair ropes, knives and coral, jade, etc., to pay homage to the sacred mountain.
Numerous ice meltwater forms streams, which converge in a large area to form a starry and scattered lake area, which has become the source of the Yangtze River - the world's third largest river.
Looking from the foot of Taglang Mountain, Taglang Mountain group is like a white dragon, stretching across the distant horizon.
Taglang Mountain's surrounding natural landscape is peculiar and spectacular. In winter, here is a world of ice and snow, silver and white all over the mountain and valley; in summer and autumn, the scorching sun and melting snow, the natural grassland below blooms with colorful wildflowers, vibrant and beautiful. Those leisurely cows and sheep, accompanied by the snow mountain and grassland, have created a wonderful Taglang Mountain grassland. Remarkably, it is also a paradise for wild animals, wild yaks, Tibetan wild donkeys, Tibetan antelopes, horses, bears, lynx, brown-eared goats and snowcocks – rare and exotic animals can be seen. The extra surprise is all given by Taglang Mountain.
Taglang Mountain, a diamond-like name, the great river begins to surge from here; the whistling wind and the tears of compassion are still clear in the hidden depths of the clouds.
