Badaling Great WallLocated in Yanqing District, Beijing, its advantages are convenient public transportation, you can reach it by taking a bus from Deshengmen or taking the sightseeing train S line from Beijing North Station. Its disadvantage is that it is crowded, especially during holidays, it's really shoulder-to-shoulder.

Mutianyu Great WallLocated in Huairou, Beijing, its advantage is that it's less crowded, and most visitors are foreigners. Its disadvantage is that there is no direct public transport. Many foreign heads of state come to visit Mutianyu.

I don't like crowds, so I naturally chose Mutianyu.

The History of Mutianyu

Mutianyu Great Wall is 5400 meters long, which is the longest section of the Great Wall in China. It was built on the ruins of the North Qi Great Wall by Zhongshan King Xu Da, a general under Zhu Yuanzhang, in 1368. It is the most part of the Ming Great Wall.It connects to the north of Kubuqi and to the west to JuYongguan, and has been a military stronghold guarding the capital for centuries.

It has prominent features such as the Zhaotai platform, the Jialou tower, and the Eagle Flying Downwards. The wall structure is well-preserved, which well reflects the ancient charm of the Great Wall.

Mutianyu in the Four Seasons

Why do I say Mutianyu is worth visiting three times a year?

In spring, Mutianyu is surrounded by pink flower seas.

In autumn, Mutianyu is covered with red leaves.

In winter, after the snow, Mutianyu is so beautiful it's unbelievable.

When I went to Mutianyu, although it was not as beautiful as the pink flower seas, red leaves, and snowy Mutianyu, the mountains were also quite bare, but the weather was very good, the sky was blue and the crowds were small, and the air was much fresher than in the city.

To get to Mutianyu, there is no direct public transport. I booked a day trip online, which was divided into several packages, including round-trip transfers, including ticket purchase, and including ticket purchase and cable car tickets. I bought the package with transfer and ticket purchase, which is quite recommended because after climbing the Great Wall and returning to the bus, I really felt completely exhausted. If I took the bus back, I was afraid that there might not be seats, and I didn't want to stand for an hour.

The seven thirty bus departs from Dongzhimianhu Station, it's not congested in the off-season, about 9:20 in the morning, it arrives at the Great Wall, and returns at 1:10 in the afternoon, which is about four hours. It's not too strenuous for people with good physical condition. It's enough to enjoy it. During the trip, the guide will not follow you, but he provides transportation transfer, and he will introduce some information about the Great Wall on the bus. Because most visitors are foreigners, the guide will use both Chinese and English to explain.

If you want to take public transport, you can take bus 916 to Huairou Station, then take a shared car to get there. The price is about 10 yuan per person.

Even if you sacrifice your weekend sleep time, even if you have sore legs the next day, the moment you look at the distant view, everything is worth it.

Mutianyu Route Introduction

4. South Ascent Ramp, arrive at 6 or 8th

You cannot combine cable car and sliding track; you can only take the cable car or the sliding track.

We chose the North Ascent Ramp, and when we got to the fork, we went right to 8th , and left to 10th . It's said that if you go right, you'll get there sooner; if you go left, you'll be there a third of the way. I asked the small shop uncle when I got to the fork if I had climbed halfway, and he was very helpful. If you go right, you'll get to 20th , but if you go left, you'll be at one-third of the way. It's better to go right.

When we got to the fork, it took a while to see the amazing scenery. It's quite amazing.

The tour guide says that if you don't take the cable car, it takes about 40 minutes to reach 14th , which is even longer, especially in the first half, it's cold and hungry, and I'm very sluggish. After eating a bag of buns and drinking a cup of soy milk, I was completely restored. It took about 15 minutes to get to 21st . Seeing the highest point in the distance, I thought I'd climb to that point, and I did. My goal was the highest mountain in the picture.
