Birthplace of Chinese National Fusion, Dragon Totem Origin, Now a Popular Ice and Snow Tourism City
Zhangjiakou, belonging to Hebei Province, is the northernmost sub-city of Hebei, bordering Shanxi and Inner Mongolia, and adjacent to Beijing. Due to its terrain, it is surrounded by mountains on three sides, with continuous mountains and a relatively steep terrain, which has hindered economic development over the years and has consistently ranked among the bottom few in the province. However, 'Good men raise their weapons in their prime!' Looking back at history, it is entirely justifiable to say that it is the birthplace of the Chinese nation.

China's 'Dragon' totem culture is renowned worldwide, spanning five thousand years, with all the Han Chinese descendants proudly calling themselves 'Descendants of the Dragon.' Five thousand years ago, the three emperors revered by the world, Yellow Emperor, Yellow Emperor, and Chi You, were engaged in a decisive battle in Luofu. After Yellow Emperor's victory, tribes were constantly integrated and merged, creating 'Dragon' totem culture, thus opening up five thousand years of Chinese civilization and achieving multi-ethnic integration. From then on, the Chinese nation has constantly risen and shone in the long river of history, often standing among the world's foremost nations, while Luofu is now the Luofu County, which belongs to Zhangjiakou.

Zhangjiakou is also known as 'the ancient city in the wilderness.' Its history is long and rich, having been the territory of the Xiongnu and Turks since the Spring and Autumn Period and Warring States Period, so it has been called 'a military town' because of frequent wars. In all dynasties and generations, long walls were built here to defend against foreign enemies, making it the city with the most extant long walls in the country. It is also a city where many ethnic groups coexist and have unique characteristics. In addition to the Han people, there are Hui, Manchu, Mongolian, Zhuang, Korean, Tibetan, Miao, Uyghur, and other 26 minority ethnic groups. This has created a unique urban culture. Besides Han people, there is also Warm Spring Ancient Town in Waigu, the majestic and solemn Wanhua Temple in the Western Fortress, which is a national key cultural heritage protection unit. There is also a famous place called Qi Ming Ya in Huairou County because of the Empress Dowager Cixi's escape. There is also Shengxiao Ancient City with a history of over a thousand years, and the Long Wall built by dynasties. If you want to see the grassland, come to Zhangjiakou's Bashang, and you can see beautiful grassland where cattle and sheep can be seen blowing in the wind, without going to Inner Mongolia.

Not only are there many famous scenic spots, Zhangjiakou's specialties are also abundant. The smoked meat from Shigu Fort is delicious, the fragrant wild mountain hazelnut from Chadian is intoxicating, the long-tailed chicken from Bashang is popular, and Zhangbei's horses and Waigu's paper cutting are all famous. I have a classmate who lives in Zhangjiakou, and he will always send me several boxes of Zhangjiakou potatoes every year. Using a popular slogan, 'You can eat it cooked or raw, it tastes delicious no matter how you eat!'

Zhangjiakou's climate belongs to the temperate continental monsoon climate, so winters are exceptionally cold and long. Therefore, it is very suitable for hosting various winter sports events. On July 31, 2015, the International Olympic Committee announced that Beijing and Hebei Province's Zhangjiakou would jointly host the 2022 Winter Olympics. It was re-elected as China's Tenth Best Ice and Snow Tourism City in 2017.

In recent years, Zhangjiakou's economy has been slow due to the influence of terrain. However, in recent years, with the successful bid for the Winter Olympics, the country has also invested resources in Zhangjiakou. Zhangjiakou can continue this 'tailwind' of the Winter Olympics and develop a unique 'ice and snow tourism' to drive economic development. It is believed that this 'Dragon' totem birthplace will rise and fly among the stars.
