Preparation Before Going to Thailand: How to Avoid Losing Ticket Money by Changing Thai Baht
Exchange Rate Article
Hello everyone, I'm Mica, a frequent backpacker in Thailand. In the previous article, I introduced the preparation for applying for a Thai visa and purchasing a SIM card. This article mainly discusses how to obtain Thai Baht at the best exchange rate.
Thai Baht
As the name suggests, the Thai Baht is the official currency of Thailand, with denominations of 1000, 500, 100, 50, and 20 Baht. As of the time of this writing, the exchange rate between Renminbi and Thai Baht is 1:4.51, meaning 100 RMB can be exchanged for 451 Baht.

Domestic Acquisition
- This is typically through China Bank and ICBC appointments, which are slightly lower but won't deviate too much. Before my departure, I usually exchange around 1000 RMB for Thai Baht, mainly to handle situations that require cash payments.

Airport Exchange Points
- Exchange points at domestic airports also provide Thai Baht exchange services, but I don't recommend exchanging at the airport ✈️. The exchange rate at that time is significantly different. I remember that when I exchanged at the bank, the rate was 1:4.9, but the airport was 1:4.4, with a difference of 0.5. If I exchanged 1000 RMB, the difference would be approximately 500 Baht, or about 100 RMB.
Abroad Acquisition
⚠️All manual exchange points require you to bring your passport!
Airport Exchange
- Whether it's Suvarnabhumi Airport or Don Mueang Airport, there are ATMs and manual exchange points:
*ATM withdrawal is calculated based on the domestic real-time exchange rate, but please note that there is a 150 Baht service fee for withdrawal. Checking the balance also incurs a service fee. Therefore, don't randomly click.*
Airport ATM

*Manual exchange points have similar rates to domestic airport exchange points, and the exchange rates are very low. Therefore, unless it's an emergency, I don't recommend exchanging at the airport.*

City Exchange
- Taking Bangkok as an example, there are many exchange points in the city center, and currently, I think the exchange rate is relatively high is Superrich's exchange point. They have a website and app, which can be used to check real-time rates. Previously, some people said that the orange ones were higher than the green ones, but according to my current website query, the green Superrich 100 RMB can be exchanged for 4510 Baht, while the orange Superrich can be exchanged for 4440 Baht, with a difference of 70 Baht, or about 15 RMB. If the quantity is large, the difference will increase.

⚠️In addition, many places support Alipay and WeChat mobile payments, and the exchange rate will be automatically calculated to help you convert, and the rates are also relatively high. Therefore, in 7-11 or Family Mart, you should use this method if it's available, and you can also check real-time exchange rates for occasional promotions.
