The new Tibet line is the highway from Xinjiang to Tibet, the official name 'G219', the starting point is Yecheng County, Kashgar, Xinjiang, and the end point is Litakhet County, Tibet, with a total length of 2140 kilometers.

Tibet, because of its high altitude, is known as 'the roof of the world'. Currently, the main roads entering Tibet are three lines, from Sichuan and Yunnan, the Sichuan line; from Qinghai, the Qinghai line; and from Xinjiang, the new Tibet line (also G219).

These three lines, the new Tibet line are the most difficult to walk, also the most dangerous and challenging.

The new Tibet line is also known as the world's highest altitude, the most dangerous and difficult road, the road conditions are very poor and the environment is the most harsh.

It crosses the world-famous Kunlun Mountains, Karakoram Mountains, Gandesi Mountains, Himalayas, crosses 16 ice passes, passes through 44 ice rivers, and most of the sections of the entire line are 'no man's land', with an average altitude of over 4500 meters.

In fact, it is said that the new Tibet line is the most difficult to walk, but there is a more important question, which is the people's fear of the plateau. It takes adaptation and endurance.

So on this line, people going from Tibet to Xinjiang will be more, while from Xinjiang to the plateau, fewer people will go to Tibet, at least those who dared to go had thought about it carefully.

So how to travel from Xinjiang to Tibet, divided into several stages, how long will it take to complete? I will share my experience here.

First, go to Yecheng, first obtain the border defense permit, and buy high-altitude prevention of altitude sickness medication and supplies.

The starting point of the G219 highway is Yecheng, Xinjiang. Most places in Xinjiang need to obtain a border defense pass (some places can be obtained at home).

Day 1: Obtain a Tibet border defense permit to Litakhet area.

The place to obtain a permit is inside 'Setiaya City Scenic Area' outside Yecheng, about 10 kilometers away from Yecheng City District. This is the only place in Xinjiang to apply for a border defense permit to Tibet's Altai region.

It is best to go early to obtain a permit. If it goes smoothly, you can reach the Litakhet area on the same day. If it is delayed, you need to consider whether you can take a trip on the same day. It is recommended to set off early the next morning.

The border defense permit only requires an ID card, there is no cost, and the validity period is three months. Here, only the Altai region's permits can be obtained, and further permits to Lhasa or other regions need to be obtained in Tibet.

When filling in the application, you need to fill in the relevant information such as 'by' which is 'tourism'. A driver of a truck fills in 'working', saying that the troops on the mountain have no food, he needs to deliver it immediately and cannot delay it.

If it's a tourist, you must fill in 'tourism'. Otherwise, when applying for the next stage of border defense permits in Tibet, you will encounter trouble.

After obtaining the border defense permit, I bought some supplies, the most important of which is high-altitude prevention of altitude sickness medication and supplies.

First, I came to the 'G219 Starting Point' in Yecheng. The pharmacies in this area sell oxygen cans, glucose, red root powder, etc.

In addition to oxygen cans, I also bought two boxes of glucose and a box of Dan San Pills, but I did not buy red root powder, mainly because it is preventive, and it needs to be taken in advance. Glucose and oxygen are effective.

Next, rest and set off the next day.

Second step

: Yecheng to Thirty Mile Camp, about 364 kilometers.On the first day, try to get up early and drive to Thirty Mile Camp. If it goes smoothly, you can also stay overnight in Red Willow Camp.

The first day's road is the most difficult, gradually entering the plateau, the altitude is high, the road is winding, the road surface is not good. I also encountered road collapse, limited to three hours.

On the third day: Thirty mile to Yitu County, you can also stay in Dom.

This day is completely on the plateau, from the Pamir Plateau to the Qinghai Plateau, the altitude is relatively average, and the road is also good. There are few vehicles on the road, and many wild animals. It's a very enjoyable journey.

On the fourth day: Thirty mile to Litakhet, this section is relatively close, and it will quickly arrive at Litakhet.

Third step

: Litakhet to Shiquanhe, briefly replenish supplies.

At noon, I arrived at Shiquanhe, where I applied for the next border defense permit.

The place to obtain the border defense permit is a square not far from the government of Ger County. There is a 'Ger County Government Service Center'.

Applying for a permit is not difficult, as long as you have an ID card and the border defense permit issued in Yecheng, fill in the relevant information. Here, there are two options to apply for a permit, one is to fill in 'Altai County, Lhasa City', which is where I want to go, the other is to fill in 'Altai County, Yecheng', which is our direction. However, Yecheng and Lhasa cannot be filled together.

Here, it reminds everyone that the border defense permit at home is best obtained from the local public security bureau, which will save a lot of trouble and worry. When filling in the application, fill in all the necessary border defense permits in the province where you are going. Because I obtained the border defense permit from my local public security bureau, I had to search and obtain three permits in Kashgar, Yecheng and Ger.

After obtaining the border defense permit, I would like to visit this largest city in the Altai region, and buy some supplies and have a meal to rest.

Fourth step

: Shiquanhe to Zhadara, along the G219 road, finish the last section in Tibet.This day passes through important sacred mountains, such as Kunlun Mountain. If you are lucky, you can see the full view of the sacred mountain. This mountain is also a world-class sacred mountain.

Seventh day

: Shiquanhe to Pulang, along the G219 road, ending in Litakhet.This day's road passes through many tourist resources in the Altai region, some are far and some are close, you can according to your time or physical condition, or your preferred tourism and other features, you can directly drive to Litakhet.

Fifth day

: Litakhet to Pulang, again leave the G219 road to take G564 National Highway 100 kilometers, all winding mountain roads.This town is a small county town, but there is the famous ancient state of Guoqiang and the world's largest soil forest.

Sixth day

: Pulang to Litakhet, again leave the G219 road, take G564 National Road, but the travel distance is not much.

This day is a sightseeing tour, along the way there are beautiful 'Ma Pang Yong' visible, and seen in Pulang County experience Indian and Nepalese style.

2: Pulang to Litakhet, along the G219 road, ending in Litakhet, in Litakhet, the last section of the road passes through the sacred mountain of Kunlun Mountain. If you are lucky, you can see the full view of the sacred mountain. This mountain is also a world-class sacred mountain. The road to Litakhet is also paved with oillook at a large area of oil.
