Introduction to Cities of China: Linxia City, Gansu Province
Linxia City is located in the south-west of Gansu Province, and is the location of the Linxia Hui Autonomous Region's Party Committee and Government, as well as the political, economic and cultural center of the entire region. It is 117 kilometers from the provincial capital, Lanzhou, and falls within the Lanzhou One-Hour Economic Circle category.
Historically, Linxia City was a key town on the Southern Silk Road, formerly known as Qilian and Hezhou, and was known as ‘Tea-Horse Trade Exchange’, ‘Western Dry Port’, and ‘Huangzhou (River Hui Strong Town)’. It was also known as ‘China’s Wheat Plus’, ‘Land of Flowers’, ‘Ceramic Pottery Town’ and ‘Land of Lilies’.
In September 2018, with approval from the Gansu Provincial Government, Linxia City exited the list of poor counties and cities.
