Chain Scarp by the Yangtze Three Gorges

Chain Scarp is located on the south bank of the Yangtze River in Qu Yuan Town, Xigui County, Zigui City, Hubei Province, standing between Bingshu Scarp and Ni Gan Pai Scarp. It is named 'Chain Lock Cliff' because of this.

Chain Scarp was originally called 'Locking Mountain' and 'Lock Mountain' early on. The 'Guizhou Record·Mountains and Waters' states: 'East of Xiangxi, three miles, Bingshu Scarp, also known as White Dog Scarp. The canyon's southern rock wall has a fold about five feet wide, said to have divine power to lock, lasting for a long time and not falling, called 'Lock Mountain'.

In 2004, Xigui County Qu Yuan Town decided to develop Chain Scarp and built a scenic area integrating mountain climbing, sightseeing, and adventure. More than 100 attractions, including 'Zhonglu' statue, 'Jingsong Garden', Gui Xiang Temple, Wagang Village, and Execution Platform, were built.

Gui Xiang Temple was named because it commemorates Quyuan's return. It has a history of over 2000 years and has been restored. It now has a Hall of God, Xingxing Hall, and Guanyin Hall, allowing people to pray and make wishes. Through it, you can feel Quyuan's concern for the country and the people, and his dedication to his ideals.

Residents of Chain Scarp, the altitude of Chain Scarp is close to 1000 meters, the mountain is steep and the canyon is deep and secluded. There is an ancient village – Chain Scarp Village, with more than 30 households, almost all of which are descendants of the same family. They still uphold the ethics and traditions of thousands of years and live in their own time. It is primitive and ancient, sincere and natural. Because of the long history, the cliffs have been eroded by wind and rain, buried in history and hidden from view. The iron chain on the clifftop is the only way to go up and down. For countless years, the iron chain has maintained the entire life of the residents of Chain Scarp. This old road, which was once a symbol of closure and poverty, has written a long chapter in the history of Chain Scarp Village.

In 2001, the Zigui County Government built a highway along the Yangtze River, which opened up the Tunnel of Chain Scarp. In order not to forget the hardships of the ancestors in climbing Chain Scarp, they restored the iron chain on the original road section. This is now the Chain Scarp Village Party Service Center. It is very convenient to go to Chain Scarp from here, and it is also more relaxed. The car can now drive into the village, get out of the car, and walk about 10 minutes to reach the top of Chain Scarp. If you don't want to enter the scenic area, it's a good choice to go from here, which can also enjoy the scenery of the canyon and experience the life and rural scenery of the residents of Chain Scarp. If the season is good, you can still taste sweet citrus. This route doesn't charge tickets.

Passing by the fossil observation point

The car takes about ten minutes to arrive at the end of the cement road, and then starts walking, which takes about ten minutes to reach the top of the cliff. The surrounding area is farmland, fields and forests.

Standing by the railing on the top of the cliff, there is the 'World's Most Narrow' Chain Scarp No. 2 Gorge nearby. According to records, this No. 2 Gorge is 700 meters deep, and the widest opening is 6-7 meters wide.

Climb to the top of Chain Scarp and look around: high canyons and lakes, the opposite Li Hua Mountain, across the river is the new Tangshan slide body, Guangjia and Xiangxi Port are very close. The walls on both sides of the river are steep cliffs, and the mountain north of the chicken rice temple mountain is very green, and the big king mountain is towering into the clouds. New towns have risen from Tangshan on both sides of the river. The mountains are green, the water is green, and the scenery is beautiful.

I. Bus lines:

1. From Yichang to Maiping Bus Station, the fare is 15 yuan, which takes about 50 minutes to arrive at Maiping;

2. The bus station in Maiping Phoenix Mountain Passenger Transport Station has buses going to Guo Jia Bu direction, passing through Chain Scarp, and taking about 40 minutes to arrive at Chain Scarp. The passenger transport station also has a bus to Guo Jia Bu direction.
