Kang Youwei's Residence in Qingdao, with a History of Over a Hundred Years, Where Kang Youwei Passed Away

However, the first owner of this small Western-style building was not Kang Youwei, but a German. This small Western-style building was built in 1899 and has a history of over a hundred years, and is one of the earliest German-style buildings in Qingdao.
This small Western-style building was originally the residence of the German Deputy Commander of the General Governor, Friedrich Leon. It covers an area of about 1600 square meters. The main building is a three-story German-style small Western-style building with a very beautiful exterior. Since 1923, Kang Youwei bought the building and lived in it as his home in Qingdao. Kang Youwei died here in 1927. Now it has been converted into a memorial hall.
Kang Youwei was from the Nanhai area of Guangdong. Because the late Emperor Pu Yi bestowed the name 'Tian You Tang' on Kang Youwei, Kang Youwei named this residence 'Tian You Yuan'.
Inside the residence, there are exhibition halls, study rooms, living rooms and bedrooms with restored displays, as well as 'Kang Youwei's Biography Exhibition' and 'Kang Youwei's Calligraphy Exhibition' and 'Kang Youwei's Path in the World' exhibition halls.
This small Western-style building, which is not very crowded with tourists, is quiet and serene, just like the other buildings with red tile roofs in the old city, creating a unique human landscape in the old city of Qingdao. Kang Youwei's residence next to Shiniushan Park is also a good viewing spot. There is a viewing platform on the hill, where you can enjoy the coastal scenery.
