Chongqing's Copper Bell Mountain to Be Developed into a National Mine Park

Chongqing Daily News, March 27th. Chongqing Municipal Bureau of Culture and Tourism announced that Copper Bell Mountain Mine Park, hailed as 'Chongqing's Yellowstone National Park', has now completed the first phase of mine pit remediation, and will next implement integrated governance plus ecological restoration to create Copper Bell Mountain National Mine Park.
Copper Bell Mountain was once the largest limestone mining area in Yubei District, leaving over 40 large mine pits after years of mining. In 2010, due to environmental damage caused by mining, the Yubei District government shut down the Copper Bell Mountain Limestone Mining Area. Afterwards, through years of accumulation, the mine pits formed into deep and colorful 'lakes', surrounded by cliffs and with turquoise waters, a breathtaking landscape.
In 2017, Copper Bell Mountain Mine Park was awarded national mine park construction qualifications, and in September 2019, the overall planning was completed. According to the plan, the park's total planning area is 25.18 square kilometers. Taking ecological protection as the core concept, and immersive mine tourism experience as the characteristic, it aims to create a national mine park and a national 5A-level tourist resort integrating scientific popularization, leisure and fun, and ecological health.
Specifically, around the mine restoration theme, the park will create three themed areas: Mine Expo Garden, Mine Fun and Play Garden, and Mine Paradise Garden.
Currently, the first phase of mine pit remediation at Copper Bell Mountain Mine Park has been completed, and the second phase of construction is underway, covering slope stabilization and construction of trails, railings, green landscapes, and suspension bridges.
