Li Sha’s Reflections on Life

What is life? Perhaps when you're alone at night, you'll also think about this question, for searching for one's lifelong purpose, for the endless troubles of the present situation, and for the melancholy born from the vicissitudes of life. And author Li Sha answers this question with this quiet and profound book.

Life, as depicted by the author, unfolds leisurely, with the unhurried tranquility of sipping afternoon tea, and also with delicate feelings about the little details. Between the soft and refreshing words, there is also a sense of openness and spirituality. Reading it leaves one with a lingering sense of unfinished thoughts.

Love is said to be simple, but learning how to love is difficult.

What is love? Love might be when I turn around and see you, your radiant smile under the sunlight, which heals my inner sadness. Love can also be a thorny forest that leaves you scarred, or being hurt by love, or hurting others with love.

Li Sha recalled several deeply moving stories she had seen and heard – stories that subtly revealed her understanding of love. Her understanding of love is more open and transparent, loving without being artificial, and loving without being selfish.

One story is about 'A Moment's Encounter' from 'The Legend of the Condor Heroes' – when Yang Guo, already a middle-aged man, met Guo Xiang again. Guo Xiang, lying on the ground, cried and begged Yang Guo to pick her up, but Yang Guo suddenly realized that he had already become a source of sorrow for others like Lu Wu, so he avoided the potential misunderstanding of reaching out to her, and gently helped her up with his sleeve.

Perhaps after experiencing so much, Yang Guo began to realize that the emotions you should give are the ones you should give, and that you shouldn't cut off the thought of giving them from the beginning, and stop the damage as early as possible. It's about goodwill.

Another touching story is about a man saying goodbye to the woman he loved. He knew that they were destined not to be together, and hesitated to go in, unwilling to leave, and struggled with his feelings for a long time, and finally picked a maple leaf and placed it at the door.

Some things are missed and can never be recovered, and when they're gone, there's no need to dwell on them, which is so good. Cherish love when you love, treat genuine happiness well, and it's better to regret and lament than to regret and lament.

Understanding yourself is key to living a meaningful life.

Looking back on the past, many people often laugh and cry at the foolish things they did. The affirmation and persistence at that time seem ridiculous now, and it's hard to understand why they were so firm in their decisions at that time. After hearing so many reasons, after living for decades, have you truly understood?

Perhaps not. Life is complex, and it's not easy to maintain rationality and wisdom simultaneously. And knowledge is vast and boundless, and everyone's knowledge is limited. Nevertheless, Li Sha still believes that finding one's sense of mission can make life more meaningful.

Talk to your inner self, recognize your true self, reconcile with your emotions, and don't let feelings control you. Live in the present, have things you want to do, passionate pursuits, the ability to perceive essence, and the steadfastness of holding onto the original intention.

Cultivating independent thinking ability is particularly important. Rigid thinking will lead to thinking being constrained. The brain's obsession with everything fixed, aversion to the possibility of loss, and measuring everything based on oneself – these are all traps that we must bravely admit and jump out of. It's not easy to cultivate independent thinking ability, even if it feels comfortable, it lowers the quality of thinking and doesn't benefit personal growth.

The book also contains many of Li Sha's personal life experiences and inner cultivation, with light and elegant words, but the thoughts and insights are clear and profound. Perhaps when life is confused, it can bring a warm sun-like comfort. After all, in Li Sha's view, if your heart faces the sun, you can embrace warmth and give roses, and you will have lingering fragrance.

A person's life is always searching for happiness, and the more you want, the higher the requirements, the more difficult it is to achieve. But is happiness not a feeling? Perhaps, as long as you go forward with a soft and warm heart, the journey will be filled with beautiful scenery.
