Only by Lowering Your Head Can You Stand Tall
Someone once asked Zeng Guofan, 'What is the distance between heaven and earth?'
Zeng Guofan replied, 'Three feet.'
The questioner dismissed it with a scoff, saying, 'If the distance between heaven and earth is only three feet, wouldn't the sky be full of holes?'
Zeng Guofan replied, 'So it is, we have learned to bow our heads.'
Life is filled with flavors; it is only by learning to bow our heads that we can stand firm for a long time. Those who know how to bow their heads are smart people.
A bow of the head is wisdom.
