Deep Eyes Like a Well: 'Skeletons'
Modern Poetry: 'Skeletons'
Author: Cai Si

Skeletons, a pair of eyes as deep as a well
Once a clear stream of water
Two bright lamps
Perhaps a young man of the Republic of China
Or an ancient octogenarian from the Qing Dynasty
The Ming Dynasty is too far away
This saline land cannot preserve too much

Life is short, and skeletons don't last long
One snow covered by another
Which snow is warmer?
Willows and elms have their own blooming season
The hillside faces the sun, covered in sunflowers
Standing like a tree, standing
Someone in the distance blows like the wind

That skeleton, its deep eyes still look out.
