1
An old monk raised a potted orchid, and he cared for it meticulously, often watering, weeding, and controlling pests. Under the monk's attentive care, the orchid grew remarkably healthy and elegant.
Once, the old monk had to go out to visit friends and entrusted the orchid to his young apprentice, asking him to take care of it. The young apprentice was very responsible and cared for the orchid just like the old monk, and the orchid flourished.
One day, after the young apprentice watered the orchid and went out to do errands, a torrential rain with strong winds overturned the orchid, smashing it to pieces. When the young apprentice returned, he found the orchid reduced to broken branches and withered leaves, and he felt very distressed and afraid of being scolded by the old monk.
A few days later, the old monk returned, and the young apprentice told him about the orchid's misfortune and prepared to accept his scolding.
But the old monk said nothing.
The young apprentice was surprised, because that was the old monk's most beloved orchid.
The old monk smiled faintly and said:'I raise orchids not to be angry.'
Our work is not for anger, we love each other not for anger. Cherish what we have put our heart into, and accept loss with equanimity. If there is nowhere to hide, then rejoice; if there is nowhere to escape, then be joyful; if there is no pure land, then quiet your mind; if there is no wish fulfilled, then let go.
2
If you harbor resentment, there is no place to be angry; if you are grateful, there is everywhere to be thankful; if you seek growth, everything can be grown; it is not the world that chose you, it is you who chose this world; if there is nowhere to hide, then rejoice; if there is nowhere to escape, then be joyful; if there is no pure land, then quiet your mind; if there is no wish fulfilled, then let go.
