Summer migratory birds, when the spring weather gradually warms up, they arrive in Yangzhou successively, and when the autumn weather gradually turns cold, they fly back to the south. Swallows, specifically house swallows, because they often like to nest under people’s eaves or in their homes, are often called ‘lucky birds’ and are the most beloved birds. However, compared to the house swallows that are close to humans, the Grey-headed Thrush’s popularity is far less than that.

Robin

Robins are small in stature and agile, so-called ‘light as a swallow.’ House swallows have a habit of using old nests, so as long as there have been swallows coming to your eaves or your home last year, and you haven’t disturbed them, the probability of them arriving this year is also very high. Besides house swallows, other summer migratory birds are also arriving in Yangzhou, such as robins.

There are dozens of species of robins in Yangzhou. Common ones include pond herons, white egrets, black-necked gulls, grey-headed thrushes, house swallows, golden-throated swallows, grey-rolled gulls, large robins, four-sound robins, small robins, and water chickens.

Different robins have different calls. The sound of ‘Cuckoo, cuckoo’ is the call of the large robin, the four-sound robin’s call is ‘Cuckoo, cuckoo, cuckoo’, and the small robin’s call sounds like ‘having a drink’.

Many summer migratory birds have already formed pairs before returning to Yangzhou. Therefore, people often see them ‘showing affection’. This year, Yangzhou is worth looking forward to the summer migratory birds such as water chickens and mandarin ducks are ‘appearance idols’. Especially mandarin ducks, their tail feathers are their hallmark.

Pond Herons, White Egrets: Fenghuang Island Wetland Park, Haigang East Lake Wetland Park, Bao Ying Lake Wetland Park, Runyang Forest Park and so on.

Black-necked Gulls: Yizheng Ridge area, where there are flocks of cattle raised by farmers, Black-necked Gulls are often seen on cattle.

Golden-throated Swallow: Gaohui Lake.

Grey-rolled Gull: Summer goes to rice fields, often see them chasing insects in the air above rice fields.
