A Yellow Sambar Deer Enters a Company's Wastewater Pool; Yiwu Chikan Emergency Rescue and Release
On April 6th at 8:30 AM, the Yiwu Chikan Town Government's on-duty personnel received a distress call from Ausheng Laichain, reporting that an unknown wild animal had appeared in the company's wastewater pool, and was swimming frantically inside. When someone approached, it suddenly emitted a clear, dog-like bark, causing the people present to hesitate.

Company personnel initially estimated that the wild animal was likely to have sneaked in through a gap in the company's gate last night. To minimize harm to the wastewater pool, the company's responsible person urgently closed the drain and repeatedly conducted rescue efforts, but none of them were successful.

Subsequently, after multiple contacts, the 5 forest firefighters and rangers who were patrolling during the Qingming Festival in Chikan Town's rural area dispatched by the Chikan Town Rural Committee rushed to the scene to conduct a rescue. Several people were trying to rescue it on one side, while others were trying to salvage it on the other side. After a while, the wild animal was safely retrieved with a net. 'This animal looks like a deer, it's very timid, and it occasionally appears in the homes of farmers in Chikan Town. We are forest firefighters, and we have seen it before, but we didn't expect it to come inside the company.' Zhu Genbao, a forest firefighter, stated.

To confirm the specific species of the wild animal, the Chikan Town Rural Committee, combining 'Party Building + Unit System', promptly reported the matter to the on-duty and dividing supervisors, and then reported it to the City Natural Resources and Planning Bureau, finally confirming that the wild animal was a yellow sambar, a provincial general protected wild land animal, and confirmed the release and disposal plan. Subsequently, forest firefighters and company personnel gave the yellow sambar a bath, cleaned the yellow sambar's body of wastewater, and temporarily housed it in a cage, preparing to release it later.

The reporter learned that the yellow sambar is the largest species of the deer family, with a body length of about 1 meter and a tail length of 17-21 centimeters, with a weight of 25-30 kilograms. It mainly inhabits shrubs and low-altitude broadleaf forests below an altitude of 3000 meters, as well as grasslands. It is a solitary animal with timid and cautious habits, mainly foraging at night or in the early morning and evening, and hiding in shrubs during the day. It feeds on tender branches, leaves, flowers, fruits, and crops.
On the same afternoon at 2:00 PM, staff from the Chikan Town Rural Committee and rangers arrived at the pine forest of Bingfeng Water Reservoir and the surrounding woodland, and released the yellow sambar back into nature, thus calling on everyone to 'properly protect wild animals.'
