The Owner Couldn't Bear to See the Dog Sold Off at a Discount, Saying Goodbye After 12 Years of Companionship
Twelve years is a relatively long period for humans, and it might be a dog's entire life. Dogs accompany us with their short lives, bringing us memories that can never be erased. When they leave, they will always live in our hearts.
On a 12-year-old day, Mrs. Lin bought dog food at a pet shop and saw a male and female pair of Schnauzers in a display case. At that time, Mrs. Lin was in a hurry to go home and didn't think much about it, just glanced at the two dogs and left in a hurry.
After a while, Mrs. Lin went to the pet shop again, and only the female Schnauzer was still in the window display, and it was marked with a special selling label. Mrs. Lin watched the little dog squat alone in the window, fearfully looking at everything outside. When Mrs. Lin walked over, the dog suddenly stood up and frantically scratched at the glass door, as if saying, 'Please, a kind person take me away, I want to leave this place.'
Mrs. Lin couldn't bear it to see the dog's eyes, so she bought it and brought it home. At that time, Mrs. Lin's home already had a rescued stray dog and an original resident. The elders knew about it and strongly opposed Mrs. Lin bringing a third dog home, but Mrs. Lin insisted firmly. She couldn't bear the dog to continue to live a lonely and helpless life in the window display, and it was even considered a special sale item.
Unexpectedly, after bringing it home, the real test began. Mrs. Lin worked during the day, and her husband worked in a northern city, and she would return home once a month. There were two children in the house who were in elementary school, plus three dogs. Mrs. Lin suddenly felt overwhelmed, especially the Schnauzer was very fond of barking and became the house's 'alarm bell.' And the dog barked all day, which affected the neighbors' lives and made Mrs. Lin have countless thoughts of adopting.
During that time, Mrs. Lin hesitated repeatedly whether to find a good home and send the dog out for adoption. But Mrs. Lin was unwilling to part with it, worried that the adoptive person might abandon it halfway and become a stray dog. Finally, Mrs. Lin gave up the idea of sending it out for adoption and decided to give each other another chance. Mrs. Lin said that at least in my home, I will take care of it for its whole life.
So it passed for more than ten years, until last May, the dog suddenly fell ill, Mrs. Lin hugged it and rushed around to see a doctor, did examinations, and hospitalized. Finally, after twenty-two days of treatment, the dog was saved. Then she came back to do physiotherapy for the dog, and miraculously cured the dog that was paralyzed on one side. But nobody expected that the same year in October, the dog relapsed, and even appeared life-threatening. Mrs. Lin didn't give up hope, requesting the doctors to use the best medicine to fight for the dog's life. After two weeks, the dog was saved again.
After the two previous treatments, Mrs. Lin thought the dog could live peacefully at home, but two months later, the dog suddenly had a seizure and convulsions and couldn't eat.
Mrs. Lin's family thought it was not worth spending so much money to save a old dog, but Mrs. Lin couldn't let it go, she still hoped to do her best to treat it. But nobody expected that the next morning, the dog vomited, obviously gasped for air, and Mrs. Lin took the dog to the pet hospital, the doctor said the dog was gone.
Mrs. Lin cried while hugging the dog home, hoping the dog could see this world one last time before passing away, hugging the dog around the local park where it liked to go, Mrs. Lin said she could feel the dog's regret for this world, desperately looking around at the same time, supporting its small head, licked away the tears on her face, as if saying, 'Don't cry, master.'
That night, Mrs. Lin kept watching the dog until 1:30 AM before finally going to sleep with an uneasy mood. Unexpectedly, at 4:30 AM, her son ran over to wake her up, and told her that the dog had passed away. Mrs. Lin suddenly realized that the dog had chosen to leave at this time, probably didn't want to let her see its last painful struggle.
Mrs. Lin said that although the dog was gone, it would always stay in her heart. Twelve years of joys and sorrows, happiness, anger, sadness and joy were all in front of her. She will always remember the happy little guard dog. The dog was lucky and happy, having a loving owner complete its journey. Hopefully, all the 'cat holders' and pet babies will be happy and safe.
