Hainan Reduces Sea Passage Fees to Encourage Self-Driving Tours by Out-of-Province Tourists
On March 22nd, the Hainan Provincial Government issued the 'Hainan Provincial Tourism Post-Pandemic Recovery Plan – Thirty Action Measures (2020-2021)' which stipulated that 'it should encourage tourists from outside Hainan to drive to Hainan.' Article 18 trialed the reduction of fees for private cars crossing the sea for non-Hainan residents driving private vehicles with 7 seats or less during major holidays such as May Day, Mid-Autumn Festival and National Day in 2020.

Recently, the toll for private cars traveling between Haikou and Haian (Guangdong) was 416.5 yuan per car (including one driver), which means driving back and forth to Hainan will cost thousands of yuan. Therefore, implementing the reduction of sea crossing fees will better promote the recovery of the tourism industry.
