30 Kilometers South of Zhangye, Gansu Province, Selected as One of the World’s 25 Dream Travel Destinations
Zhangye Rainbow Danxia Landform Group is renowned for its vast area, concentrated formation, interlacing strata, steep cliffs, majestic scale, peculiar shapes, and vibrant colors, featuring red, yellow, white, and bluish-green hues, with wave-like color transitions following the contours of the mountains and those diagonally laid like colored cloths from the mountaintops. Under the sunlight, it appears draped in a layer of red silk, shimmering with brilliant light, and the colors are exceptionally vivid, inspiring awe.

This is a series of photos taken by photographer Wei Jie.

Zhangye Danxia Geological Park is located at the foot of the Qilian Mountains, 30 kilometers south of Linze County, Zhangye City, Gansu Province, and is one of the largest and most abundant areas of Danxia landforms, with the most diverse landform shapes in China.

In November 2005, it was selected as one of 'China's Seven Most Beautiful Danxia' by the China Geographic Magazine Publishing House and 34 national media outlets. In 2015, it was also selected as one of the world's 25 dream travel destinations by several well-known websites.
Danxia geological structure is formed by the accumulation of rocks. It refers to red sandstone formed through long-term weathering and erosion by wind and water, as well as the influence of special geological structures, climate changes, and wind conditions. It forms isolated peaks and steep cliffs, mainly developed in the horizontal or gently inclined red layers from the Jurassic to the third geological period. It is the total of various Danxia peaks developed along vertical joints in thick red sandstone and gravel layers.

Zhangye Qilian Mountains Danxia is mainly composed of red gravel, sandstone, and mudstone, with obvious traces of arid and semi-arid climate. It is characterized by interlaced strata, four-walled steepness, vertical joints, and colorful colors. It is a natural scenic area dominated by natural landscapes, integrating the grandeur, danger, wonder, mystery, and beauty of Guangdong Danxia and the colorful 'Five-Colored Cities' of Xinjiang.
