India’s Most ‘Disgusting’ Customs: Revered by Locals, Rejected by Tourists
Lead: India's Most 'Disgusting' Customs, Revered by Locals, Rejected by Tourists
In recent years, I've traveled throughout most of China, and many people ask if I was seeing beautiful scenery. Actually, it wasn't, I enjoy experiencing the customs of different places because I believe this is where the long-standing culture originates. Compared to foreign cultures, our culture, due to regional differences, always seems more easily accepted, and gradually deepened our love for our own country. However, some foreign cultural customs are a little hard to understand.

Foreign customs often surprise and even overturn our three views. Among the customs I've heard, one particularly makes me unable to tolerate it. It's said that during a local festival, men can freely embrace women if they find them attractive and wanting to marry them. The girls didn't feel uncomfortable and were even thrilled by this custom. I really can't agree with this, I think women's status there is too low, and they don't even think it's inappropriate.
However, when it comes to the most 'disgusting,' it's India's morning bathing. The place where this custom is held is called the sacred Ganges River by locals, but when standing on the shore, we can see all kinds of garbage floating on the river surface, and the murky water emits a smell like excrement. Worse, some people have even seen corpses floating in the river, which is frightening even during the day. No one would dare to be in the river with corpses, right? This leaves a shadow that is not ordinary. Imagine if you had to soak for a minute in that water – most people would refuse, wouldn't they?

But the locals don't think the water is dirty; they believe that those with pure hearts can drink it. Some people even openly use the water to wash clothes. Locals always think this is perfectly normal. But for tourists from other places, seeing such a scene is already quite good. Indeed, each country's customs are so different, and this is the first time I've heard such a 'disgusting' thing. Have you been to many places and seen customs that you can't accept? Share them with us.
