Fenyan Ancient Terraced Fields are a combination of Fengjiang Terraced Fields and Yeping Terraced Fields. Located in the Wuqi Town of Hanxin County, belonging to the irrigation-type scenic area, it has been built for over 250 years. The area is 38.78 square kilometers, and it is currently the largest and best-preserved Qing Dynasty terraced field discovered in the Qinba Mountains. It was named 'China's Most Beautiful Countryside' by the Ministry of Agriculture in 2014.
Before the Qingming Festival, rapeseed flowers bloom all over the mountains, which is the most beautiful time in Wuqi Town. Golden yellow, fresh new green, interspersed with white pear blossoms, red peach blossoms, is a series of beautiful pastoral landscape paintings.
Huanglong, Yeping and Zitougou villages, 35 kilometers from Hanxin County, the terraced fields are distributed along the mountains and water between an altitude of 500-650 meters, with a total of over 12,000 mu of contiguous areas. The terraced field level is mostly around 300, with a level slope of 1-2 meters and a width of 3-15 meters, the longest up to 600 meters. The terraced fields rely on the four creeks of Huanglong, Zitougou, Cold Water and Longwang to irrigate them by self-flowing water, which flows constantly in all seasons. According to research, Fenyan Ancient Terraced Fields were built by the Wu clan family from Changsha County, Hunan, who migrated to this area during the Qing Dynasty, starting from the Qing Dynasty Qianlong period, and built on a large scale in the Jiaqing period. It is a masterpiece of man and nature. For over 200 years, Fenyan Ancient Terraced Fields have been continuously used and developed, serving as a 'living fossil' of agricultural culture, a crystallization of national wisdom, a model of harmonious coexistence between man and nature, an integration of mountain agriculture technology knowledge system, and a 'gene bank' of agricultural biological species. Fenyan Ancient Terraced Fields are a typical and important agricultural cultural heritage.
