There is a magical place in the world, where the scenery is strange and wonderful, and it is famous all over the world, but few people have ever been there. Those who are lucky enough to enter rely on drawing lots. That place is Wave Valley in the western United States, with only 20 people allowed in each day. Jingbian Wave Valley is located in the northern part of Shaanxi Province, hidden beneath loess, and rarely known. The rocks here are called red sandstone, which is scientifically known as 'vermiculite sandstone', formed during the Paleozoic Era, specifically the Triassic, Jurassic, and Cretaceous periods. This is the Earth's history's most active period in terms of geology and the most abundant in biology and animals. Despite its relatively small scale, the scenery of Wave Valley is no less impressive than that of the American Wave Valley. The Wave Valley presented to the world is formed by millions of years of wind, water, and time sculpting the sandstone. Jingbian Wave Valley is the name given to it by people, and locals are more accustomed to calling it 'Red Sand Ridge'.
Unlike the American Wave Valley's red and white hues, Jingbian Wave Valley is mainly red. Those layered red stones look like a large batch of red cloth that has been spread on the ground after being soaked and dried, layered and folded, and under the rendering of the sunset, they are as vibrant as red clouds, which is very magnificent. Walking along the trail of red rocks, you will suddenly see a wide expanse, a river valley resembling a canyon stretches ahead. The red sandstone with flowing patterns is solidified here, and the textures on the sandstone are varied and diverse, resembling frozen magma, and together with the small streams and green vegetation on the bottom of the valley and the windmills rotating on the distant mountain tops, they form a beautiful real-life painting.
Entering the interior of Jingbian Wave Valley, you can more clearly feel the wonder of this unique landform. Walking through it, through a narrow road, experiencing the steepness of the rock walls is also a test of one's courage. Climbing to the top of the mountain to overlook, there is a bend in the green river at the foot of the Wave Valley, which is reflected in the red rocks, and occasionally a few birds soar in the sky, which adds a bit of vitality to the scenery. Moreover, looking into the distance can also see the ruins of Yan Jia Ancient City, with six stone-cave kilns remaining on the cliffs, which were used to defend against bandits in the past.
The Jingbian Wave Valley Scenic Area is divided into four areas: A, B, and C. Area A is the Wave Valley Canyon Area, now known as Zhongjian Danxia (Central Danxia). Along the trail, you can descend to the bottom of the valley and observe the patterns of red sandstone up close and experience the feeling of passing through a time tunnel. Area B is the Wave Valley, now named Huo Lian Danxia (Flame Danxia). It is similar to the American Wave Valley but smaller in scale, mainly composed of hairpin sandstone, and the shape of the stones is also strange and diverse, each with its own charm. It's also a great place to watch the sunset. Area C is named Shui Shang Danxia (Water Upper Danxia), which is the viewing spot of Cang Gou Wan (Canggou Bay) and Shui Shang Danxia (Water Upper Danxia). Looking at it, the red sandstone is intersected with blue sky and green water, which is very beautiful.
