How to Use Turn Signals on a Loop Road
Everyone is familiar with loop roads, which are typically set up on road segments with three or more intersections. Except for right-turn vehicles, all other vehicles heading to different intersections must circulate through the loop road. The loop road is usually designed with four lanes: the left-side lane for left turns, the middle two lanes for straight ahead, and the right-side lane for right turns exiting the loop.
Entering the loop – left turn
If a vehicle wants to make a left turn, it should choose the left-side lane inside the loop. Because the vehicle needs to enter the inner lane from the outside, the vehicle should flash left turn signal to indicate to the vehicles inside the loop and following vehicles that the vehicle is about to enter the inner lane to turn left. When exiting the loop, the vehicle should flash right turn signal after confirming safety and change to the outer lane to exit the loop.
Entering the loop – straight ahead
Vehicles heading straight ahead should choose the middle lane inside the loop. Because the vehicle doesn't need to change lanes after entering the loop, the vehicle doesn't need to flash left turn signal, but when the vehicle is preparing to exit the loop and continue straight, it should flash right turn signal to remind other vehicles to pay attention, and after confirming safety, it should exit the loop.
Entering the loop – right turn
Vehicles wanting to turn right to another intersection can choose the right-side lane inside the loop, or turn around outside the loop. The situation when entering the loop is similar to the straight ahead situation, so no left turn signal is needed, but when the vehicle chooses the corresponding intersection, it should flash right turn signal after confirming safety and then turn right to exit the loop.
Regarding the use of turn signals in loop roads, it is not just a matter of driving habits, but also relates to the traffic safety conditions of the loop road segment. It is essential to clearly understand how to use turn signals inside the loop. We hope that vehicle owners will, when passing through loop road segments, select the corresponding lane according to their travel direction in advance, and appropriately use turn signals to remind other vehicles.
