A City of Famous Academicians, Rich in History, and a Potential East Asian Cultural Center
When it comes to China's newest first-tier cities, you probably know some of them. According to the latest city-level classification published by Shanghai's 'First Financial Magazine', there are a total of 15 new first-tier cities: Chengdu, Hangzhou, Wuhan, Tianjin, Nanjing, Chongqing, Xi'an, Changsha, Qingdao, Shenyang, Dalian, Xiamen, Suzhou, Ningbo, Wuxi, etc. And the 'editor' is talking about Ningbo, Zhejiang, as the most low-key new first-tier city.

Ningbo, commonly known as 'Yong', is located on the east coast of China, in the middle section of the mainland coast, in the southern wing of the Yangtze River Delta, north of Hangzhou Bay, east of the Zhoushan Islands' natural barrier, west of Shaoxing City, and south of Taizhou. Ningbo is a national historical and cultural famous city. In the 2000s BC, the name of Ningbo was 'Ying', and during the Spring and Autumn period, it was the border of the Yue Kingdom. It belonged to the Ying, Fei, and Ju counties of the Qin Dynasty. In the first year of Emperor Tang's Longcheng reign, the capital of Yingzhou was moved to Sijiangkou, and a city wall was built, marking the beginning of Ningbo's city establishment. In the 14th year of Ming Hongwu, taking the meaning of 'Sea determines the waves, the harbor settles', it was renamed Ningbo, which has been used until today, and is a famous city in China with many academicians.
Ningbo is not only a provincial-level city and a unitary municipal administration city, but also one of the top 15 comprehensively developed centers in mainland China and a central city of the Yangtze River Delta's five metropolitan areas. It has been rated as a national civilized city for five consecutive years, and was designated as the 'East Asian Culture City' in 2016.

This Ningbo, which has always been very low-key, is still a little unexpected on the new first-tier city list. Ningbo is not only historically rich but also has abundant humanistic heritage. It is a typical Jiangnan water town and port city, and is also a 'Oriental Starting Port' of the 'Maritime Silk Road of China'. Ningbo Port was also named one of the 'World's Five Best Ports' by 'Container Shipping International' in the UK.

Having said all this about Ningbo, let's take a look at Ningbo's tourism resources. Ningbo has been rich in tourism resources since ancient times, with many cultural and historical sites. Famous attractions include: Xikou Town, Songlan Mountain, Jiufeng Mountain, Jiulong Lake, Wulalongtan, Nanxi Hot Springs, and the Wild Duck Pool Tourist Resort. Ningbo also has well-known ecological tourism attractions, such as the East China Grand Canyon. Do you like this Ningbo? Would you come to Ningbo for tourism?
