Huangshan, originally named Yishan (Purple Cloud Mountain).
It was named for its peaks and rocks, which appear dark green and black when viewed from afar, resembling indigo blue clouds.
It was later renamed Huangshan (Yellow Mountain) due to the legend that Emperor Huangdi (Yellow Emperor) practiced alchemy there.
The travel writer Xu Xiake praised it with the following verse: 'Thin seas and lands beyond have no mountains like Huangshan in Huguang; ascending Huangshan, all mountains are surpassed, a conclusive observation.'

This vast mountain range has long been a source of excellent teas: Huangshan Mao Feng,men Hongcha (Kimmen Red Tea), and Taiping Hou Kui are renowned names in the tea world.
