In Guilin, there is another way to get closer to the natural mountains and waters of Guilin than a boat ride on the Li River, that is to 'climb the stream' at the ancient east village
The ancient east village scenic area is a newly developed ecological and environmental area located in the ancient village of Gudong, Weichuan County, Liulin City, Guangxi, belonging to the Guanyang tourist route. It is about 26 kilometers from Guilin City. The car leaves Guilin City shortly and enters a rural small road, the road surface is not wide, it is a cement road, and there are many strawberry bases on both sides of the road. The driver told us that strawberries abound here, big and sweet, without pesticides, and are pure natural green food. Tourists can directly go into the field to pick strawberries for sale by weight. When this was said, the car soon arrived at the entrance of the ancient east village scenic area. There was a large Zhuang-style dam in front of us, and the river water gushed down from the dam top in a beautiful waterfall, forming a shimmering waterfall.
Upon climbing to the top of the dam, a deep green water was hidden between the two sides of the green mountains, the green mountains were veiled in gray, and the water was trimmed with blue and green. The water surface was smooth as a mirror, and several bamboo rafts with awnings were docked on the shore waiting for guests. Seeing us arrive, the raft boys greeted us warmly and invited us to take a raft to admire the scenery. I casually asked, 'How many people can each boat accommodate?' The small boy answered, 'Each boat can accommodate 12 people.' He saw that we were 11 people, and said, 'Just enough! Just enough!' while inviting us to board the raft. Unfortunately, we only got on 8 people. The bamboo raft that had been docked on the shore became a 'submarine', and water quickly flooded through the gaps in the raft as we stepped on it. 'Don't panic! Don't panic!' The small raft boy was panicked at first and shouted with a strong southern accent, and the other several boats quickly rushed over to implement a rescue. After rescuing a few friends, the 'submarine' floated out of the water.
After the incident, the small boy wiped his forehead with a sweat and told us that the water here was 11 meters deep, and it could accommodate 12 people normally. Why did it flood today? Hearing his words, everyone burst into laughter. It turned out that we were almost everyone's weight was close to 200 kilograms, and my weight was more than 150 kilograms. The standard of 12 people was obviously based on the weight of southern people, which is why the bamboo raft couldn't bear their weight.

The fish also seemed to be human-friendly, and occasionally jumped out of the water to show off their proud figures to the tourists. People abandoned the boat and stepped on the shore, and what caught their eye was an environmental education garden. There was a wooden board with a broken hole at the entrance of the garden, hanging a bell beside it, symbolizing that the Earth that humans rely on for survival has been damaged, reminding people to protect the environment.
While traveling, we encountered a fence, and a cloth curtain was hung in the middle, with the words 'Who destroyed our Earth?' written on it. We pulled the curtain aside, and behind it was a large mirror, the answer was obvious – the destroyer is you, me, and him.
The main purpose of visiting the ancient east village is to climb the stream, which is another way to get closer to the natural mountains and waters of Guilin. Before climbing, everyone bought a pair of shoes for five yuan and a safety helmet similar to a cyclist's, and entrusted their cameras and mobile phones, which might get wet, to their friends. All preparations came to a standstill, and everyone set off to climb the stream.
The stream water in the ancient east village is formed by underground springs, it is clear and clear, it does not dry up in all seasons, it is said that the sand content is only 0.1 grams/cubic meter, and the average flow rate is 5 cubic meters/second. The entire waterfall is divided into 9 levels, about 500 meters long, with an average width of 20 meters. The people were full of curiosity and lined up at the first level waterfall, ready to climb upwards. This first level waterfall is about 10 meters high, and the slope is about 45 degrees. The turbulent waterfall pours down from a high point, and the people climbing upwards had to use their hands to grasp the iron chains hidden in the waterfall, and use their feet to step on the rock grooves carved on the mountain wall, and desperately climb upwards. At the beginning of the climb, perhaps due to nervousness, people climbed slowly, and just touched the iron chain in the waterfall, their vision was already covered by the waves of the waterfall. The splashing waterfall immediately wet their clothes, and the slow climbers were even knocked over by the waterfall from head to toe. Male tourists mostly shouted encouraging slogans to their companions, while female tourists occasionally exclaimed in surprise.
After climbing the first steep slope, people relaxed somewhat and gained some climbing experience. I took a break and took a look around. I saw that around me, there were dense maple trees on the left and layered maidenhair ferns on the right. The trees were straight and tall, and the vines were drooping and winding. The waterfall was like a dragon coming out of the sea, like a pair of mandarin ducks playing in the waves. In some places, the waterfall was divided into countless fine streams by rocks, and spread flat on a large rock, called 'hanging silk'. In some places, it was divided into several layers, like a book unfolded, called 'the scholar's unfolding scroll'; in some places, it encountered a protruding stone that blocked the water, which was divided into two streams, called 'a pair of wings'; in some places, 'flowers scattered by the fairy'—many small water droplets. Layer upon layer, deep and shallow, high and low, up and down, people walked through it, as if they were wandering through clouds and mist, like playing water dragons. After a while, people's courage increased, and they began to splash water and play with each other. Those above only had to lift their feet slightly, and the splashing waterfall would fall into the sleeves of the people below. Those below had to move the iron chain, and those above would stagger. Fortunately, everyone wore straw shoes, so they didn't slip on the rock crevices when stepping on them, and often had exciting and dangerous experiences.
