Spring River Ducks Know First, Iron East District Welcomes 'Precious' Guests!

March brings melting ice and receding snow, ushering in a season of blossoming flowers and birdwatching. The Iron East District, previously dominated by icy and snowy landscapes, is about to welcome a season of birdsong and fragrance. Starting from late March, tens of thousands of migrating (hou nao - migratory birds) will arrive in time for the spring, having flown long distances. They will rest and replenish their energy in key locations such as Yehe Transfer Shan Mountain Lake, Shanmen Water Reservoir, and Xiaotai Water Reservoir, as well as in their wetland areas. They may soar through the air with outstretched wings, swim and play in the water, or forage for food on the shorelines. After a brief respite on this beautiful land of Yingcheng, most (hou nao) will continue their journey to their summer breeding grounds, while some will remain here, sharing the beautiful harmonious home with us.

Among these (hou nao), there are national level protected species such as the Oriental White Stork, Grade III protected species like the Black-faced Spoonbill, Ruddy Duck, Smew, Mandarin Duck, Gray-necked Grasshopper Bill, Pied Shoveler, Red-crested Pochard, Bay Wood Duck, Mandarin Duck, and other approximately thirty varieties of wading birds and waterfowl.

As of now, over 300 Oriental White Storks have been breeding near the Canglu Island in Yehe Transfer Shan Mountain Lake in Fufeng City. In recent years, the district's Party Committee and Government have highly valued ecological protection, continuously increasing publicity efforts, and creating a harmonious natural ecosystem where humans and birds can coexist, providing a good resting and nesting place for these far-flung (hou nao). Starting from the arrival of the (hou nao) in Fufeng, the Fufeng Wild Animal Protection Photography Association has organized photography enthusiasts and wildlife protection volunteers to conduct protection and observation in the (hou nao) nesting and resting areas.

It's once again a good season for birdwatching! The Fufeng Iron East District's Canglu Island, home to the Oriental White Storks, welcomes visitors to come and enjoy the scenery, admire the flowers, and watch birds. Let us bird, love birds, and protect birds, together listening to the most beautiful sounds of spring!
