The Yellow River turns from Inner Mongolia into Shaanxi, a Yellow River, which becomes a natural boundary between Shaanxi and Shanxi. The east of the river is Shanxi, and the west is Shaanxi. The people living on both banks of the Yellow River have a common cultural bond, and historically they have been generally very friendly. There's a Chinese idiom called 'Qin Jin Zhi Hao', which describes the friendship between the people of Shaanxi and Shanxi.

After winding and twisting through hundreds of kilometers in the Shanxi-Shanxi Grand Canyon, we arrived at the intersection of Shaanxi's Yanyuan County and Shanxi's Linfeng City County, where a wide river suddenly shrank into a spectacular, horseshoe-shaped waterfall group. The roar of the waterfall, the rising mist, and the earth-shaking impact were breathtaking. The Yellow River rolled onward, suspended and poured, resembling a galloping horse plunging into the river gorge, creating turbulent waves. This is the famous Long Mouth Waterfall.

The Long Mouth Waterfall is China's second largest waterfall and the only waterfall on the Yellow River. Due to its rare geological phenomenon, it has been listed on the National Geological Park List, so Shaanxi and Shaanxi Province both attach great importance to it, establishing 4A tourist scenic areas respectively. It's the best destination for people to experience the Yellow River culture and spirit. It can be said that Long Mouth is the 'first scenic area' of the Yellow River.

When to see the Long Mouth Waterfall?

The Long Mouth Waterfall, with seasonal changes, has flood periods and drought periods. Different seasons have different water volumes, which are worth appreciating.

This season, the Long Mouth Waterfall is popular because it's in the flood period. From late March to April, the ice on the upper Yellow River melts and forms a spring flood. At this time, the Yellow River's water flow is abundant, and the Long Mouth Waterfall's water volume reaches a relatively large peak of the year. It's more spectacular to view.

In spring, the peach blossoms along the banks are in full bloom, so it's called 'Spring Flood'.

You can see from my photos that the water volume is much more than usual.

Although the water flow looks less yellow compared to usual, the roaring sound of the flowing water is definitely much bigger than before.

What are the differences between Long Mouth in Shaanxi and Long Mouth in Shanxi?

Many people online are always arguing about which side offers a more magnificent view. As you can see from my photo, the left side is Shanxi, with a larger riverbed area, and the right side is Shaanxi, with the riverbed flooded, so the walkable riverbed area is relatively small and it's easy to approach the riverbank.

From the perspective of waterfall viewing, both sides are roughly the same. In Shaanxi, the activity range is smaller, and tourists are concentrated. Judging from my photograph taken today, Shaanxi has more tourists concentrated. In Shanxi, tourists walk and move around more freely, and the tourists are slightly dispersed. As shown in the picture, the left is Shaanxi, and the right is Shanxi.

In Shanxi, there's also an advantage that you can go down to the bottom to appreciate it.

In terms of the scenic area and the distance to the provincial capitals, the conditions are also similar. In Shaanxi, the distance to the provincial capital city of Xi'an is 350 kilometers, while in Shanxi, the distance to the provincial capital Taiyuan is 357 kilometers. The ticket prices on both sides are roughly the same, and the tourist visiting methods are also similar. Therefore, I believe that there's no mistake in choosing either side.

I always think that both sides should jointly create a solution, allowing tourists to buy a ticket and visit both sides, which would eliminate the frustration of having to choose one side's ticket.

Currently, I think that aerial viewing is the best viewing angle,

Since I started using a drone, I believe that for landscapes like Long Mouth Waterfall, besides ground-level viewing, aerial viewing is a very good viewing angle. Whether it's taking a helicopter to the scenic area or using a drone like me, aerial viewing is very spectacular. As you can see in the picture, is it more spectacular than the ground view?

My drone stayed at this scene for a full 30 seconds. This is the best shot of the waterfall as it's about to cascade down. I think this is the best shot of the waterfall.
