China Has Ten Most Dangerous Roads, One of Which Lies at the Intersection of Three Provinces
This is G215 National Highway; G215 National Highway: starting from Hongliu Garden in Gansu, ending in Gelmu, Qinghai; also known as Hongge Road, with a total length of 641 kilometers. This national highway passes through Gansu and Qinghai provinces. G215 National Highway is the only road that the Golden Mountains need to pass through. In the past, the Golden Mountains were a place rarely visited, with few birds flying by. In China's western region, among many towering mountains, it was little known to many people.
The section of the highway crossing the Golden Mountains is known as one of the top 10 most dangerous roads in the country. Drivers and pedestrians who have passed through it are all full of fear and astonishment. Only by walking through this section will you know what it means to brush shoulders with death. The Golden Mountains, located in Aksu County, Qinghai Province, is located at the junction of Gansu, Qinghai, and Xinjiang (Autonomous Regions). It borders Yan Dan with Shibei County, is adjacent to Tulukutu Mountain and Dunhuang City, the south is connected to Qinghai's Saishen Mountain, and the west is opposite Xinjiang's Gobi Desert. In the past, it was a place rarely visited, with few birds flying by. From Gelmu, Qinghai's, traveling on G215, it takes about 530 kilometers to reach Dunhuang, Gansu's western stronghold; G215 is the only route.
Starting from an altitude of 2800 meters in Gelmu, traveling along G215, it takes 2 hours to reach Dazhaidan at an altitude of 3100 meters, and another 2 hours to reach Dangjinshan. To the west of Dangjinshan is Alxin Mountain, and to the east is Qilian Mountain. Crossing the 3800-meter Dangjinshan, you enter Qinghai, and the view opens up, a road that stretches beyond sight straight points to the center of the basin, and the power poles and optical cable trenches on both sides of the road widen the visual effect of the road by 20 times.
Looking at the entire section of the Qilian Mountains to the west, Dangjinshan is the only passage connecting the Tibetan Plateau and the Hexi Corridor. To the west of Dangjinshan is Alxin Mountain, to the east is Qilian Mountain, to the north is Aksu County, Gansu, and to the south is Dazhaidan, Qinghai. The northern slope of the Golden Mountains in Aksu County, Gansu, is steep and rugged, while the southern slope of Dazhaidan, Qinghai, is relatively flat. A winding small valley divides the two famous mountains. To the east of the road is the continuous Qilian Mountains, and to the west side of the road rises the famous Alxin Mountain – the highest peak of the Alxin Mountain segment, with an altitude of 5798 meters. From Dangjinshan to Aksu County, the altitude drops directly by 2148 meters, and the road from the top to the bottom is 3648 meters, to the bottom 1500 meters, the long distance and the drop are 41 kilometers, which is enough to show the steepness, so it is known as one of the most dangerous roads in the country.
