Canada Tourist Visa Application Guide

1Do you need a visa?

Chinese, Korean, and Mongolian citizens require a visa to enter Canada. Individuals holding U.S. Permanent Resident (Green Card) status, or who can provide other documentation to prove their status as a U.S. Permanent Resident, do not require a visa to enter Canada. (If you have not been in the U.S. for a long time, you must first confirm your permanent resident status before entering Canada.)

If you are a citizen or permanent resident from another country, please visit the Canadian Citizenship and Immigration Canada (CIC) website to check if you need a visa to enter Canada.

2What types of visas are there?

A single-entry visa allows you to enter Canada once. If you already have a valid U.S. visa and plan to stay in Canada legally, travel to the U.S., and re-enter Canada within your Canadian legal stay period, you do not need a multiple-entry visa for the re-entry.

A multiple-entry visa allows you to enter Canada multiple times within the validity of the visa. If you have never been to Canada or are unsure if you meet the requirements to obtain a visa, you should apply for a single-entry visa.

A transit visa is for travelers who transit through Canada to reach another country, with transit times not exceeding 48 hours. Transit visas are free and can be issued for single or multiple entries. Applicants must provide proof of their onward ticket to their final destination and visa (if required). At the port of entry, immigration officials will determine whether travelers are permitted to enter Canada. If a traveler is refused entry, they will be returned to their point of origin.

Visa validity: The validity period of a single-entry visa is typically 6 months, while the validity period of a multiple-entry visa is longer. The effective date is the date you must enter (not leave) Canada. Port of entry officials will determine the length of stay. If your passport is about to expire, please update your passport before applying for a visa, as Canada does not issue visas with validity longer than your passport’s validity. Visa validity is determined by the visa officer.

3Do you need to fill out a Temporary Resident Visit Visa Application Form?

This applies to all applicants traveling to Canada for private short visits (visiting family or friends), business visits, tourism, returning students (holding valid study permits), short learning (learning courses lasting no more than 6 months, including summer camps), returning workers (holding valid work permits), or transiting through Canada.

4These precautions will help you successfully pass through

Applying for a Canadian visa does not require an interview, but the missions have high requirements for documentation. It is recommended to provide ‘weight-level’ documents. For example, household registration book, marriage certificate, property certificate, motor vehicle registration certificate, deposit certificate, etc. These can prove your financial strength and stability in China!

Applicants need to provide as much detail as possible about their itinerary in Canada.

If an applicant has obtained a Canadian visa in the past 5 years and has visited and legally left Canada, a statement is required to demonstrate the purpose of the current visit to Canada.

5When transiting through Canadian airports, what situations do not require a transit visa?

Chinese citizens traveling to or from the U.S., if transiting Canada, do not need a transit visa if they meet the following conditions:

Hold a valid Chinese passport;

Hold a valid U.S. visa;

Travel on Air Canada, Air Canada Jazz, Cathay Pacific, China Airlines, Philippine Airlines, China International Airlines;

Transit through Vancouver International Airport or Toronto Pearson International Airport Terminal 1;

Must depart from Asian cities such as Beijing, Hong Kong, Shanghai, Guangzhou, Manila, Taipei, and travel directly to Canada.

American Chinese travel agencies advise: In addition to meeting the above conditions, you must have proof of being a transit passenger and the passenger must arrive at the U.S. transit pre-clearance facility within working hours.”
