Huangshi, Hubei Province, is a prefecture-level city.
In the Tang Dynasty, Huangshi was located in Yangyue (or Yangyue) Prefecture. During the Xia and Shang dynasties, the area of Huangshi belonged to the domain of Jizhou. During the Western Zhou Dynasty, it was called O, serving as the territory of the. On August 8, 1950, Huangshi was formally established.
Huangshi was one of the two provincial-level cities established by the People's Republic of China earliest after its founding, and is also a sub-center city of the Wuhan Metropolitan Area, a major raw materials industrial base in the Central region, and an inland open city approved by the State Council. It is one of the birthplaces of ancient Chinese bronze culture. Famous attractions include: Xian Island Lake, Xiao Lei Shan, Yangxin Seven Peaks Mountain, etc.
