Dali, Yunnan Also Has a ‘West Lake’, Cleaner Than Erhai Lake, A Birdwatcher’s Paradise.
In Dali, Yunnan, there's not just (E'erhai –), but also another lake called 'sea'. This lake is cleaner and it's a paradise for birds. This is the Dali West Lake Scenic Area.

E'erhai West Lake Purple Chicken
The E'erhai West Lake wetland is located at the northern foot of the Yunlong Peak, one of the 19 peaks of Cangshan Mountain. It's in the right part of the Yuzhou Township in Dali E'erhai County. The basin area is 119 square kilometers, and the lake area is 4.7 square kilometers. The lake circumference is 10.3 kilometers, and the average water depth is 1.8 meters. It belongs to the Lancang River water system. The West Lake's ecosystem diversity is extremely unique, forming a diverse system of face-mountain forests (shrubs) - villages - farmland - lake-shore marshes - lake water surface - island villages, overlapping with both natural and artificial ecosystems.

The water quality of E'erhai West Lake is very good
Because E'erhai West Lake is at the source of E'erhai, it's not much affected by human pollution, and its water quality is cleaner than E'erhai. The water in West Lake is very clear. Paddling in the center of the lake, the water quality is even better. You can bend down to scoop up lake water and drink it. As a light boat passes by, the green reeds on the mud are waving lazily under the water. It's an unforgettable feeling of relaxation and freedom.

E'erhai West Lake is a habitat and feeding ground for many wintering birds, and also the habitat of the endangered Purple Chicken. According to the current investigation, this is the largest Purple Chicken population in China.
