PoetryNalan Nantao's most passionate poem, just the first two sentences, shocked the world!

Nalan Nantao, a famous Ming Dynasty poet.

He came from a wealthy family, lived a simple life, was good at riding, shooting, and reading, and his poetry succeeded with the word ‘truth.’ His life was also shrouded in mystery because of the word ‘love.’

Wang Kuo-wei praised him as: ‘One person is enough since the Northern Song Dynasty.’

Nalan Nantao lived a short life of 348 poems.

Today we are introducing one of his poems, which is considered the most passionate poem by Nalan Nantao, namely ‘Longxiang Sorrow.’

Mountains and waters a journey of one side,

Walking towards Guancun, the northern shore, the night deep, a thousand lamps in the camp.

Wind and snow came and went, the tents were filled with the sound of howling, making it difficult to sleep.

I couldn’t help but think: My hometown must be warm and peaceful, without such fierce winds and snowflakes.

When families are together, whether quiet or noisy, whether leisurely or busy, they all feel a sense of peace and comfort.

However, I am too far from them, and all my beloved women have left me.

Looking around, under these thousands of lamps, probably one by one, I am like this, unwilling to accompany, yearning for home people’s hearts.

The scenery in the poem is vast, with a deep heart, but it also reveals a hint of gracefulness, and the emotions are sincere and touching, and they linger endlessly.

Wang Kuo-wei said that he viewed things with a natural eye and spoke of emotions with a natural tongue.

It is rumored that Nalan Nantao was modeled after Jia Baoyu in ‘Dream of the Red Chamber.’This is about Nalan Nantao’s life and destiny.

Nalan Nantao was a noble son who ate fine wine and drank sweet wine and lived in a grand house. However, his father, Nalan Mingzhu, was vulgar and unscrupulous, and he was a low-ranking official. He looked down on his father from a young age, and he was not like other wealthy sons, nor did he care about wealth and fame, he only liked poetry and songs.

In this regard, Nalan Nantao is similar to Jia Baoyu.Speaking of emotions again...

Nalan Nantao had two loves in his life, one was his cousin, who was described as ‘a lotus flower in autumn rain,’ and the other was his wife, Lu Shi, who was described as ‘idle in the embroidered tent, often blowing red rain, and in the curved corridor, she sat in the setting sun.’

However, these two relationships did not last long, Lu Shi died of complications during childbirth, and her cousin was selected to the palace and never returned.

It's like Baoyu and Daiyu, their love was gloomy and sad, and it made people feel trapped for a lifetime.

Speaking of the bureaucracy...

At the age of 22, Nalan Nantao was bestowed by Emperor Kangxi and served as a third-rank guard. He traveled extensively and served in the western frontier. Because he was a prince of the Manchu royal family, he was brave and skilled in combat, so he was not easy to use.

In addition, he had a vast knowledge of literature and was admired by Emperor Kangxi. However, everyone who knew him knew that Nalan Nantao was never given a high position.

The reason was that Nalan Nantao’s father, Nalan Mingzhu, was a high-ranking official, which made Emperor Kangxi wary of him, so no matter how much he appreciated him, he couldn’t give him a high position.

Nalan Nantao’s life, whether it was career, love, or family, was full of ups and downs.

So he sought solace in poetry through his melancholy life.

As the saying goes, ‘writing articles is about accomplishing things, and anger brings out poets.’

Nalan Nantao’s tragic destiny also made him admirable.

‘Longxiang Sorrow’ was written in 1682, when Nalan Nantao accompanied Emperor Kangxi on a winter tour, and he was moved by the wind and snow, and he wrote three sighs, then passed away peacefully.

Three years later, in the twenty-fourth year of Emperor Kangxi’s reign, in the late spring.

The peonies were in full bloom, and Nalan Nantao, a young gentleman, drank and composed poems three times, then passed away.

His life was short like a shooting star, but he poured his life into poetry and shone brightly in the night sky.

It seems like a lot, the world is vast, the sea is deep, when you feel tired, when you lament the unfairness of fate, there will always be a new green leaf, making you feel that the world is so sincere.

Nalan Nantao is probably like this.

If you meet him, meet your original self.
