The Significance of Buying Noodles on the First Day of the New Year
On New Year's Day, come New Year's Day, New Year's Day comes to visit with many customs. In traditional New Year's customs, every day in January has specific requirements.

The so-called 'buying noodles on New Year's Day' does not mean buying flour on New Year's Day. It refers to eating noodles on 'Person's Day'.
And it's not just ordinary noodles, you need to eat 'Longevity Noodles.' Ordinary people in the north make them themselves, such as Ke Tang noodles or hand-pulled noodles. When saying that they want to eat it, they simply scoop a ladleful of noodles to make it on the spot.
'Longevity Noodles' must be made in advance because there's a procedure to offer to the Bodhisattva. Because freshly made noodles cannot be arranged neatly on the chopsticks. Therefore, they mostly buy it 'in advance'

According to Lu Dongbin's 'Book of Fortune', according to the creation of gods and spirits, the order of human beings is: January 1st, the 'Chicken Day'; January 2nd, the 'Dog Day'; January 3rd, the 'Pig Day'; January 4th, the 'Sheep Day'; January 5th, the 'Cow Day'; January 6th, the 'Horse Day'; January 7th, the 'Person's Day'.
So, 'Person's Day' refers to January 7th. This day is 'a person's birthday', so you should eat 'Longevity Noodles'.
And it's similar to a normal family hosting a large birthday ceremony. Before eating, you need to set off firecrackers, burn incense and offer to the Bodhisattva, and arrange the Longevity Noodles in the main hall.
Our ancestors who were alive would pay attention to these customs, and they seemed particularly devout. But nowadays, these customs have faded away, and many people have gradually forgotten the meaning of 'eating Longevity Noodles on the seventh day'.

However, now 'eating Longevity Noodles on the seventh day' has a new meaning. Because after the seventh day, people go back to work, 'long greetings and short gifts', eating noodles is more appropriate.
