Where are Chinese Wolves Primarily Distributed, and Approximately How Many Survive Now?
Due to the extremely small number of wild wolf packs in China, it's difficult to provide an accurate figure. Surveys on wolves in the Hulunbuir grassland of Inner Mongolia indicate that the wolf population does not exceed 2,000 heads.
However, due to severe habitat destruction and long-term, extensive human hunting, the wolf's distribution area in China has drastically shrunk, having reduced from a nationwide distribution to only areas north of 30 degrees latitude.
The Chinese wolf distribution area includes Northwest China, Inner Mongolia, Northeast China, and part of Xinjiang.
Extension: Wild wolves typically live 12-16 years, while artificially raised wolves can live up to about 20 years. They can run at speeds of approximately 55 kilometers and maintain a speed of 60 kilometers for 20 kilometers. Wolves have a highly developed intelligence, using scent, vocalizations, and body language to communicate.
Wolves are primarily carnivorous animals and a crucial link in the food chain. Although they are mainly meat-eaters, they sometimes indulge in eating berries.
