International Endangered Species White-Tailed Eagle Appears in Xinjiang's Ulenhu Lake – Flock Numbers Break Domestic Records!
On April 6, 2020, over 100 white-tailed eagles appeared in Gulan Lake, Fuxihai County, Xinjiang.
White-tailed eagles are an international endangered species. This large population gathering in Xinjiang and even across the country is rare!
On that day, during a bird monitoring activity, the Xinjiang Birdwatching Association Ren Bird Fly team and the wetland park patrol team observed a spectacular scene of 135 white-tailed eagles clustering together.
This is currently the largest recorded population of white-tailed eagles observed domestically.
During the Qingming Festival, which is when migrate back to Ulenhu Lake, the Xinjiang Birdwatching Association organized a bird migration season bird monitoring activity at Ulenhu Lake.
During the event, the birdwatching association recorded 73 species of birds in total, with a cumulative number of more than 20,000 individuals, providing real-time and accurate data for the Ulenhu Lake bird resource survey.
It is reported that Ulenhu Lake wetland was officially accepted and became a National Wetland Park in December 2017. In recent years, with the meticulous care of local government departments and people of all ethnic groups, the ecological environment has been greatly improved, and various precious birds have chosen to settle and thrive here, with bird species and populations continuously increasing to unprecedented levels, becoming a true bird paradise.
