Spring Tour of Jianghu - Come Visit Us! A Miniature 'Train Station' Hidden in Chuzhou
Chuzhou Wanda Plaza's Republic of China Street has built a miniature version of ‘Chuzhou Railway Station’, recreating the prosperity and bustle of that era.
The Jiupu Railway, built in 1908, extends from Tianjin in the north to Pukou Port in Nanjing. It opened to traffic in 1912. Republican officials, writers and artists boarded the train from Pukou Railway Station, their next stop was Chuzhou. They paid their respects to the past, tasted local delicacies, and left behind legendary stories.
Chuzhou Railway Station was a second-class station on the Jiupu line, and the footsteps left here include Lin Shen, Chiang Kai-shek, Dai Zitao, and many other Nationalist officials, as well as a large number of Ming dynasty cultural celebrities. In April 1936, famous contemporary female writer Fang Ling accompanied Ding Ling, Xu Bing, and Sheng Cheng to Chuzhou, writing the famous essay ‘The Journey to Langya Mountain’.
Chuzhou Railway Station was designed and built by British people. After the railway moved south in 1974, the old railway station became staff dormitory and still lives several households. The original site of Chuzhou Railway Station still preserves British-style platforms and ticket booths, it records the city and the history of changing eras, and carries the deep nostalgia of travelers.
