This Border Town of Just 30 Square Kilometers Meets All Tourist Dreams
This is a port city with a history of over 100 years, blending the cultures of China, Russia, and Mongolia. Its architecture is distinctive, and a different exotic atmosphere can be experienced when walking along the same street in Manzhouli. In winter, it is also the venue for the China-Russia-Mongolia International Ice and Snow Festival!
This is China’s largest land port city, named ‘Manzhouliya’ in Russian due to the construction of the East Qing Railway in 1901. Translated into Chinese, it became Manzhouli. It is located in the northwest of the Hulun Lake grassland, bordering Russia and Mongolia.
Manzhouli boasts abundant tourism resources with infinite charm. Manzhouli’s night view is golden and dazzling, incredibly beautiful. The entire city is luxurious and elegant while still retaining its exquisiteness!
Manzhouli has an area of 732 square kilometers, but its built-up area is less than 30 square kilometers. Therefore, outside the concentrated urban area, you can drive for less than an hour to see the vast distance.
Manzhouli Border. This can be considered a scenic area and a port, as you can see a lot of goods being shipped out or in here, and after passing through this border, you are in Russia. During my visit, I could clearly see Russian soldiers walking on the other side. The neighboring Russian town also looks clean and tidy. If you want to explore it, you can sign up for a travel group to visit nearby towns, which are all visa-free, but you cannot stay overnight. We can also see the border monuments and the stationed PLA soldiers here.
Set Square. If you come here, you must go to Set Square, which is a representative tourist attraction. The largest set of dolls in it is three-sided, representing China, Russia, and Mongolia, which illustrates the city’s unique location and diverse culture. When I entered the building shaped like a set of dolls, I was amazed by its luxurious decoration, featuring various oil paintings, European figures, and realistic landscapes. The square has many set dolls of different sizes and styles, and there are also various local delicacies. If you bring children, you can play for a whole day, and if you're lucky, you can catch the International Circus troupe performing here, but it's not every time.
Manzhouli’s nightlife is simply indescribable. During the day, it looks quite ordinary, but it is a small city with ethnic characteristics. But at night, it becomes very seductive.
If you use a lyric to describe it, it’s ‘Waiting for the night to fall, the lights will never be perfect.’
For the first time, I was surrounded by such orange-yellow lights, and the city was basically in a single color tone, making everyone’s faces look particularly exquisite. On the pedestrian street, Russian girls in short skirts walked back and forth, and I could also see petite foreign girls holding their tall Alaskan dogs; a Russian family came here, and the little girl held her father's hand and cried; a handsome Russian teenager rode a skateboard past me, making me feel dizzy, as if I were in another country, the longer I stayed here, the more I could feel its every surprise.
Of course, there are many places to play here besides what I've said. If you have a lot of free time, you can also go to Hulun Lake, where you can feel a different sand beach on the grassland. It’s a small city that brings warmth and poetry. Maybe it’s not bustling, but it allows you to discover its charm wherever you go.
