Beauty! A ‘Swan Lake’ Performance by Nature in Sichuan’s Joergai
Recently, thousands of black-necked swans 'hang out' in the Luo Jiaqiao River, Jiuzhaigou, Sichuan, presenting a beautiful 'swan lake' scene on the plateau.

Every year from mid-October to late November, black-necked swans from Siberia will gradually migrate to the Luo Jia River, west of Jiuzhaigou County, Aba Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture, Sichuan Province, about 100 kilometers, in Macixi Township. Jiuzhaigou is renowned as 'China's most beautiful high-altitude wetland grassland' and is an important wintering and resting site for migratory birds. Due to geothermal activity, the river water in the Luo Jia River west of Jiuzhaigou County, about 100 kilometers, does not freeze, creating a good environment for black-necked swans to winter. By March of the following year, the black-necked swans will fly back to Siberia from Jiuzhaigou.

Recently, reporters from the Jiuzhaigou Media Center captured their beautiful images. On the river surface, these beautiful elves are leisurely swimming, searching for food, chasing each other competitively, flying side by side, and together with the ice and snow grassland, they paint a magical and lively scene.

Macixi Township Secretary Yong Zhong said that in recent years, Macixi Township has deepened the sandstorm control, black soil beach control, and grassland degradation and wetland ecological restoration projects, and has achieved real results in grassland ecological protection. The 'swan lake' where black-necked swans reside is the most vivid example.

Local villagers said that more than 1000 black-necked swans have stayed in the Luo Jia River during this period, and in a few days, these cute elves will fly away.
