Mainland Tourists Explore Macau Local Markets – 1 Kilogram Equals 16 Taels!
How can you quickly get to know the local life when you arrive in a place? Visiting a market is definitely a quick way to integrate into local life, allowing you to quickly understand the local prices and the local people's level. This time, we decided to go to Macau to find out where the Macanese people like to go to the market. Many people said there was a place called 'Yuhang Market'.
Don't look at the name so elegant, in fact it's just Macau people's market. Every time I travel myself, I will go to the local market to have a look. From the market, you can know here local life level and customs and traditions. It can be said that the market is a microcosm of local life.
When we arrive here, there are no luxury and extravagant buildings, but rather full of local streets and houses. Yuhang Market is a municipal complex, including market streets, fixed small stalls, municipal parks, stadiums and parking lots. Although it is a market, it is very clean and tidy, and there are no bad habits of throwing waste arbitrarily.
Yuhang Market has two floors, the first floor is mainly selling seafood, and you can smell the aroma of seafood as soon as you enter. Here, the seafood varieties are complete, such as giant clams, limpets, various fish, hairy crabs... The variety is very complete, and there are many fish we can't even name, but they are loved by the Macau people.
Yuhang Market is really where local people come. It is full of life and the price is very reasonable because it is frequented by people who live here. But it's this feeling that I like most when traveling.
And the circle beside the market is a variety of spices and goods. I saw a few grandmothers picking and buying there, and I wanted to go up and listen to the bustling atmosphere, but I didn't understand what they were talking about, they were all speaking Cantonese, and I didn't understand a word. Here, Mandarin is not common, and everyone is used to communicate in Cantonese. Here, we are just passers-by, and we can't assimilate by using Cantonese to negotiate fiercely. Here, the strong urban atmosphere and flavor bring us authentic Macau flavor.
You can see that buying vegetables in Macau is sold by weight. Seeing the price, is it not expensive? When asking the price, I just happened to meet someone who speaks Mandarin, he told me that one kilogram in Macau is equal to 16 taels, which is much cheaper than buying in the market. In our market, one kilogram is equal to 10 taels, while in Macau, it's 6 taels more, which is not a loss.
