Lipo County, Guizhou: Diversified Poverty Alleviation Through the Creation of a New Beautiful Rural Landscape

Yaoshan Ancient Village Scenic Area
In recent years, Lipo County Yaoshan Yao Township has deeply excavated and fully utilized the unique copper drum culture, architectural culture, costume culture, and shuttlecock culture of the Yao people, transforming cultural resource advantages into tourism and economic advantages. Through ‘tourism plus ethnic culture’, using ‘five transformations’ to seize opportunities, deepen diversified poverty alleviation tourism development, and create a new beautiful rural landscape.
The village transformed into a scenic area. Relying on Yaoshan Ancient Village, Mengmong Ethnic Village, and other traditional villages, focusing on ethnic culture, through the implementation of rural revitalization construction and quality enhancement projects, the traditional village’s appearance is repaired and upgraded, tourism service supporting facilities are improved, and traditional villages are upgraded to tourist scenic areas, successfully creating the Dream Willow Scenic Town 3A Scenic Area, Yaoshan Ancient Village 4A Scenic Area, and Mengmong Ethnic Village scenic spots, laying a solid foundation for the comprehensive development of tourism and deepening poverty alleviation.

Conduct non-material cultural heritage - plaster dyeing skill training
Skills transformed into skills. By conducting training on Yao drum dance, shuttlecock, Yaoxiu (Yaoshan Embroidery), plaster dyeing, and Yaotao (Yaotao pottery), the Yao people’s non-material cultural heritage transmission is enhanced. Simultaneously, through the creation of poverty alleviation workshops, shuttlecock associations, and costume associations, the platform is established to connect ethnic handicrafts production and sales, allowing the masses to transform skills into skills, broaden employment channels, and promote the masses’ income growth and prosperity. Currently, through the ‘association plus masses’ model, 24 poverty alleviation workshops have been built for Yaoxiu, shuttlecock, and pottery, directly solving the employment of 130 people, and supporting 275 households and more than 360 people in the Yao embroidery, spinning, and handicraft production and manufacturing, benefiting from tourism industry, realizing cultural poverty alleviation and ‘homestay poverty alleviation’ as a bright name card for Yaoshan’s poverty alleviation efforts.
Houses transformed into guest rooms
Through ‘company plus farmer’, ‘expert plus farmer’ models, the farmer’s old villas are renovated into guesthouses and homestays, supporting the masses’ development of rural tourism reception, allowing more masses to ‘take a ride on the tourism train’ and ‘eat tourism food’ at home. Currently, 13 old farmer villas in Laqian Village have been converted into folk guesthouses, supporting 29 people in 12 households to develop rural tourism reception and increase income; 120 households in Dream Willow Town have participated in the development of guesthouses and tourism services through rental, joint operation, and other methods, realizing annual income of 80,000 to 500,000 yuan, and creating the ‘miracle’ of prosperity.
