Hidden Photo Spots in Chengdu Known Only by Locals, Formerly a Filming Location for ‘Three Former Lives,’ Free to Visit

Located at No. 1 Besen North Road in Qingyang District, Xicun Diyuan (West Village) is not only a popular creative park but also the filming location for the TV series 'Three Former Lives.' Take Metro Line 3 to Culture Palace Station, exit A1, and walk for about 10 minutes to reach it.

Initially considered a derelict building during its construction, the surrounding residents were surprised when it was completed and hailed as a pioneering example of urban regeneration in China, eventually being selected as the theme exhibition venue for the 15th Venice Architecture Biennale in 2016. It received the China Architectural Award's Urban Contribution Award. This biennale has been held for over 30 years and is a highly prestigious event in the world of architecture and academic circles, with significant international influence.

The minimalist, hanging staircases, raw brick walls, and the aged yet stylish atmosphere of Xicun Diyuan are all captivating. The courtyard's unique aerial running track is also a fantastic three-dimensional sports space and was once included in Chengdu's Top 10 Running Spots. It features a professional track, convenient transportation, and abundant bamboo, creating a delightful mood.
Upon entering, you can see vast areas of bamboo, evoking the elegant charm of the Sichuan Western Hills. Even under the scorching sun, the bamboo grove provides a cooling and noise-reducing effect, making it perfect for relaxing and enjoying tea.

The courtyard boasts a 4000-square-meter football field, a vibrant and refreshing space. The unique architectural design organically combines forest landscape elements, courtyards, and other traditional building features, allowing residents to enjoy vast freedom and the pleasures of life.

When approaching Xicun Diyuan, you'll first see a multi-story, closed-rectangular building with plain exterior walls and simple craftsmanship, giving it a sense of grandeur. Taking photos through the mesh from the second floor is a great pose for pictures.

The contrast between dark pillars and golden sunlight creates an industrial aesthetic that is popular with artistic youth. The entire Xicun Diyuan was designed by architectural master Liu Jikun and utilizes a special material – 'recycled brick' with an environmentally friendly concept.
There are also many nice, artistic small shops around Xicun Diyuan, and a cup of afternoon tea after taking photos is a good choice.
