The Most Luxurious Temple in Luang Prabang, Decorated with Real Gold, Even the Pillars are Lavish

Luang Prabang is a famous Buddhist city, with many temples in the small town, each with its own characteristics. The most luxurious one is Muang Rong Temple. Besides using gold for decoration, the pillars are also covered with golden Buddha images, and it is one of the most important temples in Luang Prabang.

Muang Rong Temple was built in 1821. It was once the residence of the highest elders of Luang Prabang before they relocated to Akha Temple. Today, it has a different significance, and during the Lao New Year, the gold Buddha from the Royal Palace Museum in Luang Prabang will be moved to Muang Rong Temple for the public to worship. Its status is self-evident.

Muang Rong Temple is not large, but every corner is meticulously designed, attracting attention. The main hall adopts the standard Luang Prabang architectural style. The red tile roof, paved in five layers, extends and stretches like a connection between the sky and the earth, which is a typical East Asian classical architectural style, solemn and magnificent.
The long history is reflected in every corner of Muang Rong Temple, including one black ancient tower.

In Muang Rong Temple, in addition to the distinctive roofs and Buddha images that are visible everywhere, the courtyard is also a highlight. There are Buddha images in various poses, surrounded by green trees and glittering with gold. Although I don't fully understand the meaning, I just feel calm and relaxed.

Under the solemn red roof is dazzling gold, all made of gold. The front hall is the most luxurious gilt relief wall, skillfully depicting rural life scenes, of course, with Buddhist elements. You can visit the 'Ramayana' and the Buddha's earthly life story, intricately crafted and lifelike, which is a work of art.

Before entering, you can carefully observe the pillars, each of which is engraved with golden Buddha images and Buddhist elements. The patterns are complex but meticulous. This detail is also reflected in the golden patterns on the lintel and the flying eave guardian beasts with fluttering eaves, which shine brightly in the sunlight, dazzling and brilliant.
Inside the main hall is a large sitting Buddha with lowered eyebrows and a benevolent expression. Similarly, the Buddha is surrounded by various Buddha images, standing or lying, of different sizes and characteristics. There are also some Buddha images that have been circulating since the 18th century. The jade Buddha enshrined in the temple is a treasure of the temple, very precious.

Visitors to Muang Rong Temple are not many. The monks are busy with their work. If you visit here, it is recommended to avoid the hot midday to better appreciate the charm of Muang Rong Temple.
