Seretamo Lake is the highest, largest, and most beautiful high-altitude lake in Xinjiang, and it is the last place where the Atlantic warm and humid airflow has been bestowed. Therefore, it is called 'The Atlantic's Last Tear'.
Seretamo Lake was formerly known as 'Jinghai' (Clear Sea) and is located in Bole City, Bortala Region, Xinjiang. It is situated in the Tian Shan Mountains, adjacent to Hucheng County, Ili Prefecture. The lake's elevation is 2071 meters, with a length of 30 kilometers east-west and a width of 25 kilometers north-south, covering an area of 453 square kilometers and with a storage capacity of 210 billion cubic meters.
The lake water is clear enough to see through to the bottom, with a transparency of 12 meters. The main source of water for Seretamo Lake is atmospheric precipitation and runoff from the slopes of the mountains surrounding the lake, with an annual precipitation of over 500 millimeters in the lake area.
The Seretamo Lake Scenic Area is divided into 6 functional areas: the lakeside scenic tour area, the grassland nomadic pastoral area, the ecological landscape conservation area, the habitat protection area for swans and other rare birds, the tourism integrated service area, and the original ecological environment preservation area. Three special protection areas have been established, including the central core area of Seretamo Lake, the West Sea Swan Wetland Meadow Water Body Habitat in Bosten Lake, and the Changguile Glacier Snow-Ecological Exploration Scenic Area.
