Forgotten Mysterious Ancient City of Northern China: Handan's Unique Water and Tai Chi City
Handan is a city in Hebei Province with a very rich history, it was also a very important political and economic center in history.
The Guangfu Ancient City in Handan City, Hebei Province, is a 5A-level tourist scenic area, a unique ancient city, water city and tai chi city in northern China. It was the site of the Guangping Prefecture, one of the three prefectures south of Jinnan during the Ming and Qing dynasties, hence the name Guangfu. Due to the ancient city walls built during the Yuan, Ming and Qing dynasties being well preserved, it attracts numerous tourists from all over the world, once known as the forgotten mysterious ancient city.
Yongan Guangfu Ancient City is located 20 kilometers northeast of Handan City, with traces dating back to the Spring and Autumn and Warring States period, flourished in the Ming and Qing dynasties, it has been a site for the governance of various counties, prefectures, states and counties, with many historical relics both inside and outside the city, including Hongji Bridge, a national key cultural relic, and it is also the birthplace of Yang style and Wu style Tai Chi Chuan.

The ancient city wall, built with earth walls before the Sui and Tang dynasties, was constructed with brick walls in the Ming Jiajing years. It is 12 meters high and 8 meters wide. The ancient city currently has four gate towers, four corner towers and two cities on the east and west sides, which are relatively well-preserved city walls in northern China, having important architectural history value and cultural relic value.
Hongji Bridge, well-preserved in the east, is a sister bridge of the (Zhao Zhou Qiao – Zhao Zhou Bridge), a national key cultural relic protection unit. Yongan Guangfu Ancient City is the birthplace of Yang style and Wu style Tai Chi Chuan, and it holds a major position in the Tai Chi Chuan world. Currently, the 88-style, 24-style and many styles performed in various occasions are all Yang style Tai Chi Chuan or derived from it. Among the eight major Tai Chi Chuan schools in China, those originating from Yongan account for five, and it is known as 'the hometown of Chinese Tai Chi Chuan'.
The clear river flows gently, murmuring, Hongji Bridge, built in the Sui dynasty, has stood for a thousand years across the Fuyang River, the carvings on the sides of the bridge railings depict dragons, phoenixes and horses, the bridge surface is mottled and ancient, and there is also a stone slab with a fossil of three-leafed cicada, witnessing the ancient andcangsang – vicissitude of the arch bridge.
