Keelungchi, the most beautiful place on Lake Taihu. Keelungchi is one of the world's three best cherry blossom viewing spots. The scenic area plants more than 30,000 cherry trees of 100 varieties, which is the largest and most complete cherry blossom planting base in China, known as 'China's first cherry blossom viewing paradise.'
The first impression of cherry blossoms is their exuberance. Their flowers don't bloom one by one; they bloom tree after tree. My son told me that Keelungchi has early-blooming and late-blooming cherry trees, with different shapes and fragrances. The tall and vibrant ones are Japanese flowering cherries (); the large, vibrant pink ones are Hakutsone cherries (); and the slender, pink and white ones are Shuyu cherries (). Because of the different varieties, the flowering period is different, and the successively blooming cherry blossoms can last for a whole month.
I gently approached to observe the cherry trees. The bark is gray, the small branches are pale brown, the young branches are green, smooth and shiny. It doesn't resemble peach trees that grow attached to the trunk; instead, it grows with flower stalks in clusters, with three or five flowers on each stalk, forming a beautiful umbrella-shaped flower cluster, densely layered and adorned with the branches. The petals are big or small, single or double; the pistils are yellow or green, with long or short flower stems. Some appear with flowers and no leaves, some flowers and leaves together, the leaves are oval or ovate, with spiny margins, dark green. A single cherry blossom is not spring; a thousand colors and thousands of flowers fill the garden. The beauty of cherry blossoms is a combined beauty. If you look at a single flower, you might not find it particularly special. But when they gather together, they're as ethereal as clouds, as vast as the sea, and as exciting as before, covering the sky and the ground, bringing unparalleled, breathtaking beauty.
