Nest Lake's Unique Lake Oasis - Dubbed ‘Nest Lake’s First Wonder’, Relatively Unknown to Many
Nest Lake City is a county-level city in Anhui Province. The history of Nest Lake is very long, with written records dating back over 3000 years, which is even older than Hefei, the provincial capital. The ancient Nest Lake was called South Nest during the Qin Dynasty, and Nest County was established here. In 2011, Nest Lake City was established. It is a city named after the lake.
The most beautiful scenery in Nest Lake City is undoubtedly ‘Nest Lake Scenic Area’. Nest Lake is one of the five major freshwater lakes in China, like a mirror embedded in this land. However, Nest Lake has also experienced ecological imbalances leading to ‘algae’ outbreaks, but in recent years, it has been effectively controlled through continuous management, restoring the picturesque lake and mountain scenery.
Nest Lake is known as ‘Eight Hundred Miles of Lake Sky’. The lake and the surrounding shoreline have beautiful lake and mountain scenery, famous residences, ancient temples, rivers, and towers. The eight hundred miles of Nest Lake, like waves of smoke and mist, the water and the sky are one, a very beautiful scene.
There are many tourist attractions in the lake and around Nest Lake, including the national 4A scenic area of Purple Bamboo Cave and Middle Temple-Lama Mountain Island. Middle Temple-Lama Mountain Island is also actively striving to become a national 5A-level tourist scenic area.
If you go to Nest Lake for tourism, Middle Temple-Lama Mountain Island is a must-visit attraction. It is known as ‘the first wonder of the lake’. Middle Temple-Lama Mountain Island, which is very close to each other, is a single ticket scenic area. The ticket price for Middle Temple is 10 yuan, and the ticket price for Lama Mountain Island is 60 yuan (including boat tickets).
Middle Temple-Lama Mountain Island was built near the Middle Temple, opposite the lake. The Middle Temple was founded during the Yuan Dynasty, with a history of over 700 years. The Middle Temple has been destroyed and rebuilt many times. There is a three-story pavilion in the temple. Standing on it, you can see the beautiful eight hundred miles of Nest Lake, so it is called ‘the first wonder of the lake’.
Not far from Middle Temple is the pier to Lama Mountain Island. Lama Mountain Island is less famous than other lake islands, possibly because it is small or the scenery is not unique, so few tourists come to play. However, Lama Mountain Island is the largest island in Nest Lake, and it is the only lake island in Nest Lake.
Take a boat to the island in two ways, the price of the mechanical boat is 60 yuan, and the price of the speedboat is 75 yuan, both of which include the ticket for Lama Mountain Island. Relatively speaking, I recommend the mechanical boat, which is much more stable. You can also appreciate the lake and mountain scenery along the way. Unfortunately, the weather was not good when we went, so the beautiful scenery was greatly discounted.
There is a pagoda and several pavilions built on Lama Mountain Island. The pagoda is called Fenghua Tower, which was built in the fourth year of Chongzhen, with a history of about 400 years. The body of Fenghua Tower is made of stone piles, with seven floors and eight corners, and a total height of more than 50 meters. The shape is not particularly exquisite, but the stone Buddha statues on the tower are very impressive.
You can go up Fenghua Tower, with 135 steps. Standing on the highest floor of the tower, you can use a viewing platform to look out at the eight hundred miles of the lake and the sky are one, and you can't see the end. You can also see some small islands in the lake, such as ‘Xueshan’, which is named because its shape is like a shoe. If you take a boat to cruise Nest Lake, you can see it up close.
Lama Mountain Island has built a ring island greenway, which is basically flat along the way. If you want to go to the highest point of the island, Fenghua Tower, you need to climb a section of the mountain road. The stone steps are sloping and very suitable for leisure and vacation tourism.
Lama Mountain Island is the only ‘lake oasis’ in Nest Lake. The vegetation coverage rate here is as high as 80% or more. The plants on the island are mainly bamboo, pine, pine, chestnut, pomegranate and tea gardens, which can be called a prosperous island. The environment is also very quiet. It is most suitable for tourism in summer.
