Population Exceeding 30 Million, Southeast Asia’s ‘Largest City’ Isn’t Singapore or Bangkok
This is Liu Xiaoshun's Travel and Life Institute.

Southeast Asia, due to its proximity to China, boasts distinctive cultural features, unique natural landscapes, and relatively low prices, making it a popular choice for Chinese tourists traveling abroad. However, when it comes to Southeast Asia's 'first largest city', many people probably think of Singapore, the most developed economy, or Bangkok, the capital of Thailand?

Actually, from the perspective of population size, Southeast Asia's 'first largest city' isn't Singapore or Bangkok, but Jakarta, the capital of Indonesia. As you know, Indonesia is an island country composed of over 17,000 islands, and Jakarta is located on the northwest coast of Java Island, Indonesia's largest island.

Compared to Singapore's 500,000 residents and Bangkok's 10 million, Jakarta and surrounding towns have a staggering total population of over 30 million. This is remarkable, even when compared to the world – it's comparable to China's largest direct-administered city, Chongqing.
This is mainly because Indonesia itself is a populous country, with a total population of 2.6 billion, second only to China, India, and the United States, ranking fourth in the world. Furthermore, Indonesia's population distribution is uneven, with most of its population concentrated on Java Island, which explains why Jakarta's population is so large.

Despite Jakarta's large population and scale, its economic development level isn't particularly strong, it doesn't stand out much in Southeast Asia. In fact, when people think of Jakarta, they often can't remember which country it's the capital of. However, with the development of Southeast Asian economies, Jakarta is increasingly attracting attention, and many people are optimistic about its future development prospects.

Have you ever been to Jakarta? What's your impression of Jakarta, the capital of Indonesia? Do you know that Indonesia's 'first largest city' is Jakarta? If you have the opportunity in the future, would you like to travel to Jakarta? Welcome everyone to leave a comment!
