During a self-driving trip from Beijing to Chongqing, the author visited numerous natural scenic spots in Chongqing, driving along the Highway and the Highway southward, arriving at the Chongqing city center, specifically the Three Gorges Reservoir area, located at the confluence of the Yangtze River and the Wujiang River, and Chongqing’s.
Visiting the area renowned as ‘China’s Bamboo Shoot Hometown’ and ‘The First City of Wujiang River,’ the morning brought a refreshing summer breeze as the expedition team drove to the central section of the Wuling Mountain Tourist Resort at the Wuling Valley Grand Canyon.
The Wuling Valley Grand Canyon is a human wonder formed by karst landforms, with a scenic area of nearly 30 square kilometers. The scenery features mountains, hills, and valleys with high and low layers, with altitudes ranging from 600 meters to 1980 meters, presenting a magnificent and varied spectacle, designated as a National 4A Scenic Area.
The scenic area boasts a forest coverage rate of over 95%, comprising a combination of primary coniferous and broad-leaved forests that exhibit beautiful formations with seasonal changes, creating a superb ecological environment. More than 2000 plant species thrive here, along with dozens of rare birds and animals.
While strolling along the main trail with lush greenery, the Wuling Valley Grand Canyon is filled with numerous unique and stunning sights. First, you pass through the breathtaking Tianmen Cave Cableway, which is 191 meters long, with a main span of 140 meters and a width of 2.5 meters, exceeding a height of 100 meters above the ground, entirely constructed with steel cables. On the cableway, you can fully appreciate the beauty of the surrounding forests and listen to the calls of birds and insects, and reminisce about the myths and anecdotes of Copper Wall Ridge.
Following the winding stone road, you arrive at the cloud-shrouded Pavilion, named for its year-round misty atmosphere, a superb viewing platform in the Wuling Valley Grand Canyon. From here, you can see a poetic and picturesque landscape.
The most spectacular and mysterious is the Grand Canyon Cliff Path, with countless unique scenes and vistas to appreciate. The path is 1.5 kilometers long, with an average drop of 100 meters and a maximum drop of 180 meters.
In the drizzling rain, while walking on the path, you can experience ‘Earthlight Splashes,’ where a narrow fissure allows a few strands of weak sunlight to shine through, experiencing the unique landscape of the mountain walls almost closing in on both sides. At the many stops for photos, you’ll find ‘General Ba Ma Zi Stone,’ a stone resembling the side profile of General Ba Ma Zi, who is said to be a fossilized remnant of a guardian of Wuling Mountain, and a legendary hero of the Ba people.
Amidst the towering rocks on either side of the path, you can find fresh, green plants. The Grand Canyon’s rugged cliffs constantly reveal a life-giving sense of blossoming.
When visiting the Wuling Valley Grand Canyon, you must experience the ‘Pingan Pavilion’ Return-Type Cableway. Staffers explain, ‘Currently, the world’s highest return-type cableway with a 45-degree slope, while ‘Wuling Scholar’ has a slope of 42.6 degrees, making it the steepest return-type cableway in Asia.’
Taking the cableway, you can once again appreciate the excellent scenery of the Wuling Valley Grand Canyon, which is highly recommended.
The Wuling Valley Grand Canyon Scenic Area integrates mountains, cliffs, forests, springs, waterfalls, cliffs, caves, pools, pits, and fissures. The entire canyon is vast and majestic, with towering cliffs on both sides, waterfalls cascading down the cliffs, meandering and mysterious valleys, and stacked stones and streams at the bottom. The air quality is extremely excellent, with more than 100,000 negative ions per cubic centimeter, which tourists call ‘Natural Oxygen Bar.’ The summer temperature is 6-8 degrees Celsius lower than in, cool and pleasant, a great place for cooling off and relaxation.
